Mercury retrograde coolest thing since Sixties
http://planetwaves.net/pagetwo/2009/01/07/mercury-retrograde-coolest-thing-since-sixties/

MERCURY IS about to be retrograde in Aquarius, and as it slows to a station on Sunday, a collection of planets and a solar eclipse are lining up in this sign. Searching our star files, we can find nothing like this for more than four decades — when we come out on Feb. 4, 1962, at the dawn of the Sixties.

snip

During the retrograde, Juno, Jupiter, the Moon, Sun, North Node, Nessus, Chirion and Neptune will all be in Aquarius, with Mars and Mercury close behind in late Capricorn.

This kind of alignment does not happen every day. It’s directly reminiscent of a famous Aquarius pile-up that coincided with a total eclipse of the Sun on Feb. 4, 1962. This is one of those charts that every astrology student looks at bug-eyed the first time they see it, and which Philip Sedgwick said today that at the time, astrologers were certain the world would split in half.

Both charts involve major alignments of two of the slowest moving planets: Uranus and Pluto. In the 1962 chart, Uranus is about to form a conjunction with Pluto, kicking off what we think of as the Sixties. In the 2009 chart, Uranus is about to form a square with Pluto, kicking off what we now think of as 2012.

2. Here are a few articles that talk of previous uranus square pluto periods
The Monkey Trap
http://www.stariq.com/Main/Articles/P0005427.HTM

Much the same happened in Zhu Di's China when Uranus in Pisces squared Pluto in Gemini. Zhu Di had abused the working class in order to provision his fleet. Not long after the fleet of around a thousand ships set sail from Nanjing , lightening struck the royal palace, burned down the Forbidden City and much of Beijing, and hunger triggered uprisings throughout China.

Today, while Bush and co. "stay the course" in Iraq, there is growing discontent in the American working class. Outsourcing jobs and importing cheap labor to replace American workers will, sooner or later, create a rebellious mood. The dodo is due to hit the blades when Pluto moves within orb of a square with Uranus.

Pluto, which takes around 248 years to circumnavigate the Zodiac, will inch into Capricorn in 2008. The Uranus-Pluto square will begin forming in the summer of 2008, if you allow 7 degrees orb. Then, off and on till 2019 this square will form, separate and reform. It will be most exact in 2014 and 2015, when it will create a grand cross pattern with the natal US Sun-Saturn square. The grand cross has proven to be the most "difficult" of geometric angles formed by the planets.

The last time Uranus and Pluto squared from these constellations was during the French and Indian War, which was followed by Pluto moving through late Sagittarius into early Capricorn, coinciding with working class rebellions and riots in the colonies, climaxed by the Revolutionary War of 1776.

Pluto In Capricorn: Square Uranus In Aries
The Transformation of a Decaying World

http://www.starfires.com/starwatch/PlutoSquareUranus.html

Beginning 2011 through 2015, Uranus, the planet of innovation and freedom will be in square with the planet Pluto, notorious for its desire to exert subtle but relentless power over whatever it aspects.

This square will create a cosmic tension between freedom loving Uranus and power hungry Pluto. Who will profit and benefit from the creative innovative energies flooding from Uranus? The lovers of freedom, those free spirits with a desire to live their dream to bless the entire world with their brilliance. Or the controllers behind the scenes pulling the strings of governments and corporations?

The Uranian energy of Freedom and Innovation will leave Pisces May 27, 2010 and move into Aries. Aries is the pioneer of the Aquarian Age. May 27, 2010 is the date in which events will heat up. This is the date to brace yourselves.

This Uranian energy will be bursting forth in multiple duplications of itself, all over, popping up here and there, seemingly disconnected, but very much reacting from each other. Like squirting out inventions and inspirations coming through us, inspiring this and that new thing, unable to be contained, with a life almost of its own, transforming the planet through its agenda to upgrade, innovate and aggressively stimulate the impetus towards freedom.

4. Uranus-Pluto cycles
and the storms of history
http://www.isleofavalon.co.uk/GlastonburyArchive/ephem/ef-ae.html

There's a close connection between genius and Uranus-Pluto energy-blips. Virtually every conjunction and opposition coughs up remarkable advances in culture, invention or instigation. The hitch is that, once the excitement is over, longterm reality strikes again. The 1901-02 opposition in Sagittarius-Gemini brought us Quantum Theory, Freud's "Interpretation of Dreams", radio, public electrical systems and flight, and the effects of these have been unfolding ever since – with a mixture of enlightening and polluting effects. A previous opposition in the same signs in 774-76 saved civilisation in Europe (during the Carolingian Renaissance and in the Cordoba Caliphate, Spain). Unbeknownst to Charlemagne, the foundations of the European Union of 1200 years later were laid at this time. Such prescient developments do happen when transpersonal forces work their magic.

This spotlights one characteristic of genius – it anticipates and caters for possibilities unknown at the time. Little did Alcuin the Monk, Charlemagne's scholarly mentor, know that Belgium would later become central in Europe, and little were the Wright brothers to suspect that aviation-driven package holidays would impact so much on Sri Lanka. The wringing action on the public unconscious of Uranus and Pluto squeezes out images and initiatives which speak to history: in but one Uranus-Pluto hemicycle a paper-and-wood biplane became a lunar landing module, and Freudianism became a sexual revolution. Things move a long way fast, yet much intervenes in between.

At present, many prophecy buffs look toward the year 2012 as a time of drastic change. Though end-of-the-world type anticipations might turn out to be exaggerated, there nevertheless is a Uranus-Pluto square from 2012-15. At a square, new impulses arising from a conjunction are put to the test – there is a manifestation crisis. The astrologically-logical likelihood for 2012 is that the paradigm-shift issues of the 1960s will be forced by circumstance to deliver their goods: ecological ideas, women's power and techno-globalism, to name but three bundles of issues, will probably have to handle an emergency. War, institutions and boundaries (Aries-Capricorn) are predictable front-runners for likely trouble. Knowing how things are nowadays, this aspect is likely actually to bring a hailstorm of major issues.

But the choices now are fundamental. We need to realise, for example, that war no longer resolves conflicts as once it did. This is now a pragmatic issue, not solely a moral one or the domain of lettuce-eating pacifists. In the twelve years up to this aspect, we possess the choice to make major proactive forward-steps, or to continue delaying and avoiding such challenges as long as possible. As in 1930, on the previous square, when economic and social crisis demanded drastic action, so around 2012 we tread perilous paths along which the choices we make might have enormous and rapid outcomes. Ten years after 1930 the world was at war. What will the world be like in the decade following 2012?

Edited on Sat Jan-10-09 03:18 AM by Journalgrrl
It gives us another perspective when faced with such challenge in our sphere personally - the planets and their transits are centuries upon centuries old, and how cool it is we can see our own evolution played out by the skies!

thanks shallah :)

4. I remember back then that it was believed that the anti-Christ was
supposed to have been born on Feb. 4, 1962. Well these are the famous persons I was able to find that were born on that date and the day after:

Feb 4th - Clint Black, Long Branch NJ, country vocalist (A Better Man)
Feb 4th - Dan Plesac, Gary IN, pitcher (Pitts Pirates)
Feb 4th - Vern Fleming, NBA guard (NJ Nets)
Feb 4th - Alfred Twardecki, Polish historian
Feb 4th - Michael Riley, Canadian actor
Feb 5th - Duff McKagan, , Seattle Wash, bassist (Guns & Roses)
Feb 5th - Tommy Skeoch, rock vocalist (Tesla-Psychotic Supper)

So it wasn't such a bad alignment after all. It seems no famous politicians made the list.

7. A HA! Mercury Retrograde - explains a lot...
Hubby called from his car at the gas station to report that his credit card was MIA. I looked for 10 minutes, then he found it in his wallet ;)

Then I couldn't find my car keys, 15 minutes later, they were right where I left them, in my coat pocket. Now I'm late for work for sure.

I get 3 blocks down the road and realize I left the space heater on in my house and turned around to go turn it off.

I finally get to the freeway and 3 lanes are closed for a wreck.

I always find things that have been lost for a while under mercury retrograde, wonder what will be found this time.

Perhaps we won't go camping this weekend.

When are the other retrograde dates this year?
