Your experiences with crystals?
Hey, all!

Does anyone work with crystals who'd be willing to share their stories? I'm curious about them. I had a reading with a psychic a few weeks ago; she gave me a green fluorite at the end of it, and I found myself just clutching it desperately for days! I've never been drawn to them before, but it seemed like I derived comfort from this one, so, I got myself a few more. Because I've been going through a weird emotional upheaval lately, the crystals seem to be helping me stay calm and maybe even focus a bit better on the "why" of my emotional distress.

I know one can meditate with them, or place them in various spots in a room or house, or on the body, but for right now I just seem to want to hold them all the time. Rub them between my palms, keep them in my pockets, sleep with them under my pillow.

An interesting experience (for me)--the other night, I made chili for dinner. I rubbed my eye at one point and got some chili pepper oil in it. You know how that is--not much you can do about it except whine and cry and wait it out. Well, for some reason I was moved to put one of my stones (can't remember now if it was purple fluorite or amethyst) on my eyelid for about a minute, and the irritation went away! I nearly plotzed!

Anyone else want to weigh in on these little wonders??

1. well, I used to do muscle testing to see which one was best for people
I bought my daughter an amethyst to wear on a chain around her neck. Muscle testing indicated it was very protective for her.

Right after she got it she went to Tunica, put some money in a slot machine, and won about thirty dollars. She rode out the rest of the night (that's her personality) and came back with that thirty dollars. That's just a funny little story.

I need to remind her about that amethyst.

Green is supposed to be great for the immune system, cancer, etc. Even those simulated emeralds are good...just as good as the real ones.

I'd love to know more about gemstones and color therapy.

7. So simulated gems function the same as a real gem?
I've been curious about that.

8. Pretty sure they are.........
There are some great methods now to "make" various gems. I'm not an expert in this subject. I know that simulated diamonds cannot be distinguished from the natural ones, except they are not flawed.

This may not apply to all minerals. I do know that simulated emeralds are energetically close to the regular ones, or so I have been told by knowledgeable people.

11. They don't feel quite the same to me but it could just be me
or the those few pieces I have been around or they needed a good clearing. I get a lovely buzz just walking into a new agey shop but never from cut gems until I clean 'em and charge them up myself.

12. good idea
For those that don't know, here is a good way to do it--

Leave them in organic rock salt overnight,

Then, put under a pyramid for 24 hours.

I don't "do" gemstones (although I would like to), but the above works great for pendulums.

2. I've only had 2 or 3 really noticable experiences...
...despite collecting rocks since childhood, and having since amassed quite a collection of crystals, gems, fossils, and polished minerals. I've just always loved that stuff. The only time I had an amazing "hit me over the head" experience was when I was sorting new stones in a shop where I was working. Happened to be holding a piece of moldavite (sp? green glass-like tektite), when suddenly I felt a rush of upward energy through the crown of my head, a cool and light sensation which lasted for quite some time. Pretty amazing! Even more so because I wasn't even paying attention to the stone in my hand, and we at that store were pretty scientifically-minded and didn't give much credence to alleged metaphysical properties, even though a lot of our customers did.

With other stones, it's been more subtle - a temperature sensation of extreme cold or extreme heat, especially heat for some fossils. As to what it "means" - I couldn't tell you. I used to be very annoyed that each book contradicted the others in regards to metaphysical properties of minerals. I would have thought, if there were really any such properties, there would be a consensus, as with herbs or homeopathic remedies, where there's an agreement from book to book as to which is good for what. No such thing with stones. What's more, most of the properties I've seen listed, seemed intuitively wrong to me when I looked at a given piece of polished stone or mineral. I finally realized that there are no universal properties for these substances. Their significance is what they mean to you, and you have to pick them according to what feels right to you. So obviously each author has their own interpretation, and naturally none of them mesh with mine. I'll sometimes pick a stone to meditate with or carry around with me for a while, just because it feels right, but I have to trust my own intuition rather than looking in a book. And someone else wouldn't pick the same stones I did.

I think the post above that mentioned muscle testing is onto a good idea, if only to corroborate one's own intuition.

3. I love crystals.
I can pick one up someplace and if it gives me a "buzz" feeling in the hand I will usually buy it or pick it up. If it has no "feel" to it, I leave it where I found it. I always just kinda figured that if it gave me no buzz it probably was not supposed to be hanging with me--it probably was "tuned" to somebody else.

I know there is all this ritual that is supposed to surround crystals and working with them but to be honest, I never really got into all of that. I'll maybe run them under water for a short time and then maybe leave them on the doorstep for a moon cycle or so (not always, mind you--just some of them!)

I keep them by the bed, I keep them around the house, and I even keep them in a bowl on my desk at work. I find that the bowl at work is kinda fun because some people will just rootle thru there like it is some kind of treasure trove. Other folks just sit and look at the bowl like it might bite them. Kids LOVE it and will play with the crystals for about as long as you'll let them. I've even been known to give them away to somebody that seems especially drawn to one. More seem to find me anyway--so why NOT pass them on?

I do have a couple of specific crystals that I will rub or hold when I am in need of calm or when I feel so scattered I can't focus. Sometimes, if I know it is gonna be an ugly day I'll slip one into my pocket like a "worry stone" or something. I can't say definitely that they do anything more than make me happy--but I figure that by itself is pretty good--I'll celebrate beauty any time!

4. Didn't do a thing for me until June '06, during that whole psychic awakening thing.
I still use a number of crystals on a weekly basis (black kyanite for keeping the chakras in alignment and for healing, tektite for balancing male/female energy, and flourite for psychic protection; sometimes I play with sunstone).

Attraction to crystals was one of the first signs of impending spiritual explosion for me. So if you feel yourself being drawn to them at this time, you might want to just let it ride.

5. Thanks for your stories!
Blue Iris, can you tell me a little bit more about your experience? Do you think the crystals helped act as a catalyst, or were they a "symptom" (for lack of a better word) of what was happening to you?

13. Catalyst. Biggest one, really (aside from the emotional desire to do good for the world).

After months of playing around with crystals of all kinds, I was holding a piece of yellow calcite and suddenly the chakra in the palm of my hand opened. It was the most amazing feeling ever. I could feel the energy spreading up my arm, then over (or really, out of) my entire body. I basically blasted out all of my chakras and spent a couple of weeks feeling total bliss (kundalini). There are actually some posts from around that time on DU.com in which I wrote about it.

What's funny is that before that experience, and I mean literally 24 hours before, I was still about 80% skeptical of spirituality (seriously). I think it's the Taurus Sun factor; it's not real to me unless I've physically felt it.

6. Another kind of interesting experience today.
I must be all about teh crystals, I guess. Today, something made me want to take all 6 of my crystals to church. I greeted a fellow church member after the service who was not looking too well. (My husband alerted me to his appearance before the service was over.) I asked what was going on and he said he'd just had surgery for skin cancer. I popped one of my extra fluorites into his hand and told him it was a "healing stone" and that I wished him well. He seemed happy to have it.

Later, before dinner, as my husband and I were chatting in the kitchen, I held out my little collection and asked if he wanted any of them. He chose the amethyst, which I let go gladly. My husband is not really metaphysically inclined! But that stone called to him.

I think I need to carry "extras" around with me, what do you think? I was so grateful to get my own crystal from the psychic; I want to give them out to people they might help, too.

10. Amethyst clusters are great for drawing out pain
I found that placing them over a painful area reduces the pain whether it is a sinus headache, ache of an old bone break or moontime cramps.

When choosing a new crystal I usually go with the first piece I grab but sometimes after holding other pieces I find one that gives me the Goldilocks feeling. After my stepGrandad had a heart attack I went to a new age shop to look at crystals and I grabbed a nice chunk of aventurine (sp?) and did not want to let go before I remembered that aventurine is great for the heart energy. Years ago I was showing my grandparents my crystal collection and he was drawn to a tan piece of jasper so I gave it too him. It was until it lost it a couple years ago that I found out he always carried it in his pocket as his bad hip didn't ache so much when it had it.

18. Question......
Are there any healing, or spiritual properties in a rock FULL of Mica?? I use it for a paper weight, and it has some sentimental value as well. Just wondering. I had forgotten I had it 'til I read this post.:hi:

In any case, just looking for other stories here.

17. That is my story.
Go to a shop with crystals or even a jewelers, or images.google.com, and see if anything catches your interest.

There are Hindu Vedic charts regarding birthdays and appropriate stones, if you want to pursue that as well. Good luck, and let us know what ends up making you smile :)
