I have to let my kitty go tonight
She started having problems earlier this year with her thyroid and in spite of being on medication since then, she crashed this past weekend and has been at the vets since Monday morning. She's refusing to eat or drink and even though she's getting IV fluids, she's not getting any better. She has decided its time to go.

I've been crying since I took her in on Monday because I knew it would probably come down to this. She's 19 and I've had her for 17 years, so I can't complain about not having enough time. However, even at that, those years went fast and here we are.

Please keep me and my K'Ehleyr in your thoughts, light and prayers as she makes the transition this evening. Thanks.

1. Dear Love Bug, your kitty is grateful for the time she had with you.
You're doing the right thing in seeing her through to the end. K'Ehleyr had a wonderful life with you, but her little furry body is not able to support her bright spirit. May she make a peaceful transition into her lightbody, and may you find comfort in your precious memories of her.

I had to make that decision last week for my dear cat, Tiny. It's hard to let them go, but I know that Tiny is now sleeping on my husband's lap in the spirit world.

12. Thank you all so much for your kind comments and energy
K'Ehleyr went peacefully, purring until she stopped.

I am full of tears tonight and hug my other cat close to me. I'll be ok but I need to grieve for now.

14. Oh Love Bug, I'm so sorry

I know how difficult these things can be on your family and K'Ehleyr. You gave K'Ehleyr many many good years. I know you will miss her, but at least she has made the transition peacefully.

I've had so many adult kitties I've had to put down, a couple went on their own. I was able to grieve for them and not carry the pain all that long.

But the hardest one I can't get past is my little Kagome. She was only a year old when she passed over back in July, and every single day I have found myself missing her so much. Maybe it's because she was a feral kitty and I was able to tame her, although she was sickly and I tried to keep her alive, I wasn't able to do it. I couldn't save her.

 to you and K'Ehleyr.

17. I'm so very sorry for the loss of your kitty...
I wish you peace at this difficult time. I know the pain you are feeling, as I just lost my guy cat on October 10th. He had many health problems and like your kitty, was very old at 17.5. It's so sad to have to make that final decision, but we are doing the best thing that we can to ease their suffering. You had many wonderful years with your fur baby and the memories and love will help to sustain you through the coming days and months.

Is there something in the air? Three cats in two weeks on DU? *sigh*

22. Thanks for your condolences..
I don't know if it's something in the air, or whether we all just have very old kitties. My remaining three guys are all in their upper teens (2 at 17 and one at 16.5).

19. The Rainbow Bridge
I understand what you're going through and hope this poem helps. It was given to me years ago when I lost my best friend and kitty. I've never really gotten over it, but the poem helps. Blessings to you, Love Bug, and your dear guide and companion who I know is now watching over you.
- H.D.

"The Rainbow Bridge"

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especailly close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends
so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine,
and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content,
except for one small thing:
they each miss someone very special to them,
who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together,
but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
Bright eyes are intent;
the eager body quivers.
Suddenly, they begin to run from the group,
flying over the green greass,
legs carrying them, faster and faster.
You have been spotted.

And when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion,
never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face.
Your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet,
so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you will cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

20. I'm so sorry
it is very hard to say goodbye to a wonderful animal who has been with you so long. My own cat was 19 when she left me, too. To this day I have lived with her longer than anyone else in my life.

23. You both are in my thoughts
2 years ago, my best friend Alex, who was 19 also passed. It was very hard, she was with me longer than anyone else. I had to take her one morning, she was laying on the bathroom floor and just looked so bad, she constantly looked at me for comfort, which was not like her, she was a mean cat. But I loved her. This went on for 3 weeks and I knew she would die that day, so I took her. It was so hard. As time went on, I realized how much she was such a part of my life. We went thru so many lovers, friends, roomates, etc. She was always there at the end. I miss her so much.
Just know your live was enriched by K'Ehlery and you had a good friend.
Sorry my L's are sticking tonight. Having a hard time writing this.
