Lorna Byrne:

Lorna Byrne's memoir has been bought for a six-figure sum by the publishers of The Da Vinci Code, but she doesn't see her powers as unusual, says Peter Stanford

"I don't always see the angels' wings," admits Lorna Byrne, "but when I do, they are beautiful beyond words. The other day I was with someone and, as she walked into the room, her guardian angel opened up for me and I saw its golden wings in such detail. I could see the feathers individually."

Lorna Byrne's sincerity is unmistakeable
We are sitting in a central London café. To me, a mere mortal, there is nothing out of the ordinary to detain the eye - groups of people at tables, sipping drinks and chatting. But for the 54-year-old Byrne, as her eyes flit around over my shoulder, there is a whole other dimension.

For as long as she can remember, she has been able to see angels - as she describes in Angels in My Hair, a memoir that has become a runaway bestseller in her native Ireland and has just been signed up for a six-figure sum by the American publishers of The Da Vinci Code.

"I'm seeing spirals of light behind people," she reports. "Those are the people's guardian angels. We've all got one. They are usually about three paces behind us."

"And then I'm also seeing the other angels, too, the ones that I call the helpers and teachers. They are white and beautiful. All angels have a human appearance, but that's just for us, so we are not terrified."...>

2. Wow, great article!
Thanks for posting this. What an interesting life she's leading. Heartening that so many people are reading her book!

I'm glad to see that she agrees with other points of view I've heard, that angels are another "species" entirely (not humans who have died). I recently wrote an article about ghosts and made this distinction, but I asked the editor to change it just before it went to press because I was afraid it would offend some people.

3. It's weird because I'd never heard anyone say that they...
thought that angels were human souls. To me, those people could be guides but not angels.

:)

4. I've heard it way too often
Last year several local high school girls were in a fatal car accident just before or just after graduation (I forget which), and their families immediately started calling them angels, and it stuck--in all the newspaper article and benefits and stuff, they were called "angels".

7. I don't think they are human but a different type of entity that
occupy a different dimension from us although they are very much aware of us. Sort of like we know about microscopic life but they aren't aware of us.

6. Confession.
I don't see them but I feel their presence around me at times, and they have interceded for me at various times in my life. I was awakened by a presence once when my apartment had caught fire and almost pushed out the door although there was no one there. I got into an accident once where my car spun around in the middle of the hwy (slick road) going into all lanes and I couldn't stop it but I was unhurt. What was miraculous was that there was no traffic at that moment and this was a very busy hwy in California. I was able to get out of the way and to the shoulder just as traffic was coming in time.

9. Very nice to hear this. A friend lost her husband a few
years ago in a car accident. There son who I believe was around ten, was also in the front seat. His dad was driving. The son said that angels came to him and told him he would be alright, and stayed with him until emergency help came. His father died instantly.

10. Have to say the feathered wings thing sounds a little suspect

Like the Hollywood version of an angel. Do they have halos and carry harps too? don't get me wrong, I'm a true believer but whenI see descriptions of angels from central casting it stretches credibility.

11. I've heard that you'll see angels the way you expect angels...
to look. It's done to make us feel more comfortable. She mentions it in the article, if I recall correctly, but I've also heard it other places. (However, I'm sure that they can also look like regular people if they don't want us to know that they're angels.)

12. I've heard that too

Kind of like the concept that you see the otherworld the way you expect to (Christians will see Christ but non-Christians won't, etc.)

I participated in a circle with my coven where we invoked the angels. To us they appeared almost like the beings in The Dark Crystal--at the end, when the Mystics and the Skeksis merged (the Urskeks)--VERY tall and regal and imposing, but no wings.

On edit: like this (from the movie) but thinner, taller, and darker

13. Wow, that is an interesting story
I think she is a person who has a perceptual ability that allows her to see what's going on in another dimension.

I think, given enough time spent meditating, that others can see this too. William Buhler is an author/explorer/researcher/meditator who can do this.

I heard an interview on C2C with this guy Phillip Krapf who has written a book about his guardian angel. In that book he says angels don't have wings but perhaps he's just not familiar with the concept that we see what we believe in.

Krapf is an interesting character. You can read his Wiki bio here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phillip_Krapf

No mention is made of this latest book but perhaps the bio has not yet been updated. What's interesting about Krapf is his background, which is so "mainstream." There is nothing "otherworldly" about him, yet he has these experiences....

Anyway--Cleita, I, too, have had experiences like what you wrote about. In one, I could actually feel a hand holding me down from getting up to check out a sound in the living room. I also had the sensation of feeling so heavy that I couldn't move. I had just come in from a late-night swim, though, so I thought the "heavy" feeling was related to that. And I chalked off the noise to my kitty.

Turns out that there was a rash of burglaries in these homes back here in the mountain. A few days later a neighbor down the street in the next town over heard the same noises, got up to see what it was, and was shot in the stomach with a gun. He survived but was in the hospital for six months.

The burgler did get away with 5k worth of stuff but insurance paid for a lot of the loss.

Cher
