Does anyone have any natural-healing suggestions.....
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 10:30 AM by teenagebambam
.....for dealing with panic attacks? I have dealt with them without meds in the past, about seven years ago, but they've recently resurfaced and I'm just trying to re-acquaint myself with what worked for me before! I've got some good breathing techniques, and I've increased my vitamin B intake....any other suggestions?

Oh, and my birthdate is 8/12/66, 4:00 PM, Columbus Ohio, if anyone cares to find out what might be causing me to panic. I can't figure it out for the life of me!

1. Panic attacks are usually related to Uranus.
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 11:01 AM by stellanoir
You're having your Uranus opposition over the next six weeks so it's within orb. That's a generic transit.

Do you have a more precise birth time? The Moon changed signs minutes before 4 pm.

But retrograding Mars would have triggered your Moon recently which is sort of nerve wracking.

Many of my friends swear by this product.

But don't make the mistake I made and if you try it definitely get one of the flavored varieties.

Hope that helps.

3. Some people also swear by Rescue Remedy.
I haven't tried it myself though.

6. It works for me - when I remember to take it once an attack hits that is
For me it short circuits the panic cycle almost totaly stopping it in it's tracks most of the time. After I still feel worn and like crud but at least it wasn't a full blown one.

4. Inositol
It takes quite a bit--but you can chew the tablets-- they taste sweet. I like the GNC inositol tablets.

Double-blind, controlled, crossover trial of inositol versus fluvoxamine for the treatment of panic disorder.Palatnik A, Frolov K, Fux M, Benjamin J.
Ministry of Health Mental Health Center, Faculty of Health Sciences, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheba, Israel.

Only 70% of patients respond to current treatments for panic disorder, and many discontinue drugs because of side effects. myo-Inositol, a natural isomer of glucose and a precursor for the second-messenger phosphatidyl-inositol system, has previously been found superior to placebo in the treatment of depression, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but a direct comparison with an established drug has never been performed. A double-blind, controlled, random-order crossover study was undertaken to compare the effect of inositol with that of fluvoxamine in panic disorder. Twenty patients completed 1 month of inositol up to 18 g/day and 1 month of fluvoxamine up to 150 mg/day. Improvements on Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety scores, agoraphobia scores, and Clinical Global Impressions Scale scores were similar for both treatments. In the first month, inositol reduced the number of panic attacks per week (mean and SD) by 4.0 (2) compared with a reduction of 2.4 (2) with fluvoxamine (p = 0.049). Nausea and tiredness were more common with fluvoxamine (p = 0.02 and p = 0.01, respectively). Because inositol is a natural compound with few known side effects, it is attractive to patients who are ambivalent about taking psychiatric medication. Continuing reports of inositol's efficacy in the treatment of depression, panic disorder, and OCD should stimulate replication studies.

7. If you are at all sensitive/empathic/psychic practice grounding and shielding
do it to yourself and your home along with energy clearing techniques for a week or two and see if this helps. I am empathic so these things made a big difference with my anxiety and panic as I was no longer the local emotional garbage dump/psychic sponge on top of my own Stuff.

10. Not particularly empathetic....
....BUT, partner is in a tough job, and has had a rough start of the year. And, long story short, my full-time job depends on him staying in the job he's in (technically, he's my boss, and I take up the slack for the stuff he can't do BECAUSE he's the boss). So, I deal with a lot of guilt over the fact, even though we both know this is a temporary situation.

8. Rescue Remedy.
That's a Bach Flower Essence, in case you're not familiar with it. It works for animals too.

9. Hi!
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 06:35 AM by DemExpat
I have used a herbal tincture blend of Valerian Root and Passion Flower for years for stress, insomnia and anxiety and panic.

When I stopped taking pharmaceuticals for panic and depression my Homeopathic GP prescribed me Argentum Nitricum, which for me gave me the most support for my acute claustrophobic reactions while travelling, in busy stores or in crowds. But homeopathy is best when one gets a personal diagnosis and prescribing of a remedy, and not one taken from a book or from advice from others.

Homeopathic remedies don't always work as a big bang relief, but much more subtly, and in my experience, healing longer term. This remedy helped me greatly in slowly healing my panic until my life was normal and comfortable again.

Along with the B vitamins try a good quality Magnesium (with a little calcium) supplement. Fish oils too.

If you are maybe carbohydrate sensitive you might also try eating far less refined carbs - especially highly processed ones of grains and sugars.

My daughter used Kava during a period when she was nervous and anxious, but this herb has been banned in Europe because of a death (from excessive use) in Germany, I believe. This herb has respectable positive effect for calming as well.

11. Thanks, all
I've had great success this past couple of days with just taking control of my breathing when I feel an onset (inhaling through nose for four seconds, hold for four seconds, exhale through mouth for four seconds). Thanks above for reminding me of Rescue Remedy and Kava, both of which I used in the past with some success, but had forgotten all about.
