Getting my Reiki Level I attunement next week -- any advice?
I have already started to lay off alcohol, and switched from coffee to green tea. It occurred to me that this forum might have some additional good advice or experience. Thanks! :hi:

1. It's important to follow your own heart in this
I have been teaching I II and Master level for years and I have found that following the ideas that you get about this to be extremely important. Drink plenty of water, and allow yourself plenty of time to relax.

I'm sure that there are many schools of thought on this and other useful tips from others.

Congratulations and best wishes! Hon Sha Za Sho Nen.

2. How did you find your Reiki teacher?
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 09:28 AM by in search of sanity
I would like to learn Reiki and was wondering how to find a good class or teacher.
Good luck on your attunement!

4. Well, there's a local email list I'm on which is very alternative-focused.

They post all the events about pagan, alternative healing, and general New-Age type stuff. Through them, I actually found a shamanic healer I've taken a class with, and when I saw this Reiki class posted on the list, I asked her and a couple of other folks (my yoga teacher) for recommendations, and they agreed that this teacher was quite good.

If you were local to me.... I know how to find all the cool stuff in this city, mostly through that email list I've mentioned. :D But I bet you will have no problems finding someone in New York! :D Are you in the city proper? I get up there quite often, mostly for work.

5. if you don't already learn and practice grounding and shielding
you are becoming a conduit to a very powerful energy. Grounding helps you stay centered so you can transmit without getting overwhelmed, dizzy, or spaced out as some do. Shielding lets you filter what energy you accept from the outside world. This is especially important as a healer for many unconscious absorb some of their clients issues out of compassion or just too open energy.

Even if you are not a sensitive now you may become one after. I was before and with each attunement I have opend more to my nonphysical senses. That is ok because somehow Reiki has made me better able to keep out other's energy. Also throwing a few cho ku rei's around a room and on myself is a darned good and fast way to transform any bad vibes in the area.

Oh don't be surprised if the Reiki switches on at odd times after attunement. Some don't care for it, I like it because it means someone who needed Reiki is getting what they need :)

And as another said trust your intuition. Reiki knows where it needs to go. If you feel you need to treat someone different than the standard positions do so. If you think an area needs extra attention go ahead and spend more time there. It is a wonderful healing gift so don't be shy about using it. I reiki my computer and phones so those I communicate with can absorb some if they like. I reiki the food I cook and what I feed my furkids. Reiki is wonderful addition to the first aid kit so I reiki my scratches and burns as I clean and bandage.

6. Please let us know how it goes.
I had my first Reiki session ever a couple weeks before Christmas. Loved it. I want to go back and get a few more, and I am considering taking her classes. One step at a time, though.

7. Stay near a bathroom
No, really. :) With the Level I attunement, there is a physical purging that goes on with the body. Basically your body is adjusting to the presence of the Reiki energy and starts to clear out toxins. In practical terms, this means having the bladder of a peanut for a couple of weeks.

I never had to pee so much in my life as when I got my Level I. In my case the purging actually started BEFORE I was attuned (but Reiki works very weirdly for me, for reasons I don't really want to get into on a public thread).
