2. Well there's a reason for the delay...
A posse of minute men on patrol got wind there was some aliens on the loose, hopped in their pickups and chased 'em back over to Mexico. Then they sold t-shirts. :P

3. I happened across the site of a channeled being I hadn't heard of before
And this one (who only goes by the name Cosmic Awareness) said we just may have first contact in 2008. Now THAT would be interesting! But...I hope first contact isn't in the reddest part of Texas!

FWIW, here's the being's 2008 forecast: http://www.cosmicawareness.org/Links/2008_Forecast/2008_forecast.shtml

4. "reddest part of texas"
Even though I can't argue with your assessment, I'm feeling an urge to defend these people. My mother was born 60 miles west of Stephenville and my parents and I went to college in the same town. I've been to Stephenville for college football games. We drove through Stephenville going and coming from Dallas to my grandparent's more times than I can count. I loved it because it meant we were half way! They are church people and slightly ignorant about some things (George Bush being the most obvious). But they are good country folk. The visitors would probably be invited to a pot luck supper! I think it would be good for both parties :)

9. One of my favorite places in the world
Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 07:02 PM by itsjustme
Is just outside of Glen Rose Texas, a state park with dinosaur tracks in the rock just below the river. This is a truly amazing place. It would be a huge tourist attraction but for the fact that it is an entirely dry county. So needless to say they have a hard time supporting restaurants and filling a convention center. In any case, if anyone goes to check out the UFOs please stop by to see the dinosaur tracks. There is also a "Creation Museum" or some such thing in Glen Rose. LOL. Maybe the UFOs wanted to check out the nearby dinosuar tracks.

The drive from Fredericksburg to Glen Rose, mostly on 281, is just amazing--a huge distance, dotted with ranches and small towns and not even a MacDonald's. I was acting seriously weird with my husband and figured out later it was probably low blood sugar from having no food.

By the way, Fredericksburg is a great place to visit--and entirely different from the rest of the drive up to Fort Worth. The difference is that it was settled by Lutheran Germans instead of whatever fundamentalists settled the areas to the north. It is actually thriving with activity from San Antonio and Austin. Anyone going to Glen Rose from Ft. Worth probably makes it a day trip as there is nothing going on there but the dinosaur tracks. But they are great! As a sight to see, it is equal to anything I have seen on the west or east coast, or anywhere, for that matter. Of course, you have to like dinosaur tracks........

11. I LOVE Glen Rose.
I used to take the kids down to the Dinosaur park and the drive through Nature Preserve. An ostrich stuck his head in our car! It is an amazing place and they continue to discover things there. It's also a really nice place to tube the Guadalupe from what I've heard. We stayed at a lovely B&B on the bank of the river and I never wanted to leave.

21. Dinosaur Print!!
Okay, I found this picture of a dinosaur footprint that I took at the state park. It is under about two inches of water. Is this cool or what? My husband's reaction to all this was. "Whaaaaaa?" I haven't seen the Pyramids of Giza in person, but these were right up there with Coral Castle for me. Good for the aliens for honing in on this! They could care less about the red state/blue state stuff. I bet we are all rednecks to them.

I'm not one of those people who assume that the entire state of Texas is filled with crazy rednecks. I am more of a mind that there are scary-red parts of every state--I live on the fringes of a scary-red part of Western NY, and I wouldn't want any offworlders dropping into that area to make first contact, either. :hi:

16. I have seen unidentified flying objects twice. Not sure I would like to see 'em closer
Not many technologically advanced societies are kind to those have less technology - or even their own kind. Just because a group has more knowledge does not mean they are kind and just.

Anyhooo I always figured many sightings are the alien equivalents of teens hot rodding or going out getting drunk and knocking down a bunch of mail boxes.

17. I think 'aliens' (other or inter-dimensional beings) probably exist
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 06:46 AM by Dover
though I haven't had the pleasure of making their acquaintance.
However, I don't think about it much so haven't really examined my own feelings about it.

I suppose if they DO exist then I hope they are advanced in ways other than merely technologically.
The ancients who witnessed their presence saw them, perhaps, as Gods, angels or advanced divine beings. And that seems to be our tendency as well. I don't pretend to know what the answer is, but I tend to think that we are all 'aliens' on a journey toward the Divine Light, and some are much MUCH further along than others. And any advanced technology may just be an extension of that.
Good vs. evil are part of our own dualistic rather than holistic experience and perception, so the question of their motives within that context is probably not relevant.

Fun to ponder though!

18. It is not about good v. evil. It is about will they cause harm diliberate or not
I don't fancy being stunned, weighed, measured, have tissue samples taken and radio tagged like a wild animal in a nature program. Conservationists do this to study and find ways to preserve endangered species but I am pretty sure the wild animal does not enjoy the experience.

From reports of abductees and contactees there are a wide variety of beings. Some are kinder or at least less harmful than others. I am sure there are nice ones out there following a code similar to the Star Trek prime directive or maybe even contact a few folks quietly providing useful knowledge. My concern with non-human entities is are their intentions kind and then are their actions kind. Who knows - the tissue sampling aliens might be trying to study and conserve us humans like we do with nonsentient beings. All the same I would not choose to be their object of study benevolent intentions or not.

19. I've never seen a UFO and I don't particularly believe in aliens, but I have a story.
Whitley Streiber's book "Communion" distressed the heck out of me. I can read Stephen King without fear or loathing (even the fart jokes) and other horror writers don't scare me, but Communion did a number on me. I found myself looking around at night and wondering, sometimes afraid to go to sleep. And I also began to examine my past to see if I had been abducted unawares.

I still don't know. But I do remember something, vividly, from my childhood, when I was about three or four years old and we lived outside of Noel, Mo, in a very rural area, with no close neighbors. I remember having dreams about strange people who would take me to an operating room-like place and examine me. They said they would "fix me," or something to that effect, but it was more like telepathy, not really words. I was not afraid of them; they didn't hurt me; and we were friends. The dreams stopped after we moved to Scott AFB outside of St. Louis. I had some childhood ailments that were troubling - I had a tumor in my abdomen that was a fatty tumor that disappeared by the time I was five or so; and I had fallen out of the car when I was three and suffered cuts and abrasions. But I had no real illness that anyone could have cured me of.

Anyway, I called these visitors in my dream, "The bodies." And I asked my mother about them, and she told me it was only a dream.

When I was eight we moved back to Noel (my father was in the Air Force, and we never sold that home) for good. The dreams started again. The last time I had this dream, I woke up in the kitchen, and I was trying to find the bathroom and didn't make it, and peed all over the floor. My mother said I must have been walking in my sleep, but I never did it again.

Anyway, take it for what it is worth. I'm not sure it is worth much, LOL.

20. me too, really
I had so many childhood dream thingies. I lived in terror of going to sleep. To this day I am semi sleep disordered. Of course Whitley Strieber grew up a block away from me, and just read about how he describes our neighborhood. I don't know.....I attribute just about everything to dreams, except some items that disappeared. I just had a lot of fears and bizarre feelings at night. I talked myself out of attributing any significance to them. I thought--okay, everyone my age must go through this. But really, I have no idea.

25. Some will open up, some will stay the same, others will close up in xenophobia
Just like humans do already when encountering new things. Some welcome new things and even enjoy finding out that we don't know all there is to know. Others recoil in fear and either arm themselves to the teeth or want the powers that be to do the arming and protecting.

sorry to be so pessimistic. I know it would help some people open their minds but like always it is those who are full of fear to begin with I worry about the damage they will do. Look at the wall between the US and mexico. Imagine what some would want to spend tax dollars on from missles aimed at space, a weapons base on the moon, weapons satalites, etc.

22. A relative and spouse was followed for miles by a UFO decades ago
I overheard this as a kid when I wasn't supposed to listening. I was always afraid of being abducted as a kid but so far no memories. Anyhoo back to the relative-

Relative and spouse were driving home from I don't remember what one evening after dark in the rural Maine woods. If Bigfoot hung out on the east coast he and his kin would have liked that region. They say a light in the rearview mirror and looked back to see a glowing cigar shaped craft following them. It followed them for mile after mile no matter what route they took or how fast they drove. Finally it left a ways before they got home. They aren't around any more for me to question about things like possible missing time even if I dared bring up this incident which terrified two sober nondrinking nondruging nonsmoking sober nonimaginative adults half to death.

24. extraordinary pic
If you listen to the discussion on Coast to Coast, some people who watch this phenomena think that the U.S. has technology gained from some situation like the Rowell crash and that it will be brought out soon. It will go a long way toward solving the energy crisis. The thinking is that this is why governments have loosened up the records and have released archives of incidents.

Other thinking is that they know we're in trouble. Various explanations have been offered for why they would care, none of which really mean anything since we know so little about them or their motivations.

This picture of an extraordinary UFO is up at C2C. I heard about it on the air and when I saw it, I was in awe. Take a look. What do you think?

26. The whole story is on Larry King tonight..
I read about it when it first happened. One of the guys on Larry King said this is the biggest thing since the Phoenix Lights event of '97. The people all have the same story: The thing(s) was hugh, no sound at all, and so bright you could barely look at it. I'd give my little toe to have been there. I truly hope that more evolved beings are going to start helping us....I've been saying for four years that I feel the only hope for our country is Divine Intervention (and obviously not in the coventional sense).

28. heard a witness on Coast to Coast
http://www.earthfiles.com/

A metal welder went hunting in the early evening, decided to look up, and three hundred feet above him, a craft covered the entire area that he could see. He got a good, long, close up look. There were cone shaped holes distributed all over the bottom. It was gray metal, but he was amazed because it had no welds. It was perfectly still. Then, when it did move, it went to thousands of miles an hour instantaneously, and did this without making any noise the entire time, OR causing wind or disturbance to the trees.

Weird, huh?

Anyway, the guy said there were military planes all over the place since the incidents.

Also, he said if he hadn't thought to look up, he could have missed the entire event.

That was much more fun to hear about than losing coral and frogs to global warming and pesticides, the other LMH report.

30. So, get this
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/texassouthwest/stories/012408dntexufo.4f269ff6.html

You guys gotta read this. Looks like the days are over when government cover stories on UFOs are taken as the gospel.

Several dozen witnesses reported that they had seen unusual lights in the sky near Stephenville shortly after dusk Jan. 8. One sighting included a report that the lights were pursued by military jets. Military officials had repeatedly denied they had any flights in the area that night.

But that position changed Wednesday with a terse news release:

"In the interest of public awareness, Air Force Reserve Command Public Affairs realized an error was made regarding the reported training activity of military aircraft. Ten F-16s from the 457th Fighter Squadron were performing training operations from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday January 8, 2008, in the Brownwood Military Operating Area (MOA), which includes the airspace above Erath County."

Maj. Karl Lewis, a spokesman for the 301st Fighter Wing at the former Carswell Field, blamed the erroneous release on "an internal communications error."

That still left unanswered the question of what F-16s might have been doing that would look like a line of silent, glowing spheres. Maj. Lewis said he could not give any details.

There's a lot more--reporter obviously not buying the new explanation----

31. Yes, even the local news anchor laughed, saying at the end of the story...
"yet another explanation". This was said while showing a picture of the UFO captured on someone's mobile phone which bore no relationship to the official explanation.

The government is smart enough to know that people are rolling their eyes at their explanations.
I don't know if that's a result of more UFO awareness or a growing cynicism regarding the government's inability to be truthful about anything.

There was some statement I've read before on DU which is a quote by Kissinger (made some time ago) about how to create a UFO scare, or something to that effect. Can't recall exactly.
I have very good friends that have seen UFOs but no way to know for sure if they are ours or extra-terrestrial...or BOTH.

33. Something like this?
"Today America would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially true if they were told that there were an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead to deliver them from this evil. The one thing that man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well-being granted to them by the world government."

Henry Kissinger 1991

Remember how President Ronald Reagan had stated that if we were attacked by a power from outer space the world would then unite into one? In 1985 President Reagan told Mikhail Gorbachev at a Geneva summit meeting that:

I couldn't help but say to him , just how easy his task and mine might be in these meetings that we held if suddenly there was a threat to this world from another species from another planet outside in the universe. We'd forget all the little local differences that we have between our countries and we would find out once and for all that we really are all human beings here on the Earth together."
