I had the oddest dream...
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 09:29 PM by bliss_eternal
...anyone open to helping me with an aspect of the imagery, that I'm in the dark about?
Please let me know!

Oh and on edit--the dream (duh) lol.

...I had a dream about a giant egg. During the dream I felt very protective of it, and at one point I was rubbing some sort of oil on it--like dressing it.

I kind of get what dreaming of an egg stands for--but I'm at a total loss to the meaning of rubbing oil on it. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
bliss_e. :) :hi:

4. Maybe the egg
is showing a part of yourself that you are nurturing, or even giving birth to.
And rubbing oil on it is one way of physically nurturing what is inside of the egg shell.
Another way of looking at the dream would be to say that oil may be needed in your diet.
The size of the egg might be another factor to look at, that something big in your life is on the verge of hatching. Or it could represent somebody that you feel protective towards.

...good to see you! :hi:

I appreciate your perspective, as I was really baffled by the oil aspect. The oil could indeed apply to nurturing what's inside the egg (figuratively). I could also be applicable to diet. I'm mulling over both these possibilities.

Thanks so much!

8. Hi Bliss!
Yes, it is good that you are doing some mulling. Mulling is good. Somehow I feel that we haven't quite landed upon the most probable meaning for oil in your dream. But usually when lots of people brainstorm, it is helpful. Anyhow, glad you had such strong imagery, and I'll certainly be interested in what you come up with...

6. Let's get down to basics, if this doesn't offend you.
First, are you pregnant? That's the first thing you need to look at. The physical, since the egg symbolizes not only fertility but also possibilities. And the oil would make sense in terms of your physical well being.

If it's a psychic egg, then rubbing it with oil might suggest a consecration, a spiritual dedication to this new possibility - that you feel very protective about.

The size of the egg might be a compensation - something that you don't think is very important is being brought to your attention - so the dream makes it bigger. Or you might be giving birth to a dragon! Have you read The Dragonriders of Pern?

Hope this helps instead of going to the old link.

Good luck with it.
Wicky

7. LOL! I'm not offended.

I'm not physically pregnant, but the egg symbolizing possibilities makes sense. A psychic egg sounds about right.
Spiritual dedication to the possibility makes sense, too.

I haven't read the Dragonriders of Pern. Would it be an appropriate read for this sort of dream?

Thank you very much for your input--I appreciate your feedback!

10. That was my first thought as well....
is she pregnant.....

Seems like the most obvious interpretation of the dream...
pregnant physically or metaphorically.....

Hatching something....

9. Tell me more about the oil part.......
what kind of oil was it?
how were you rubbing it in?
(hand or cloth, fast or slow, carefully etc ?)
and tell me more about why you were rubbing it in, how do you mean "dressing it."?

What kind of egg was it?
And how did you feel about it?

(I do not do cook book dream analysis, I believe the symbols in our dreams are unique to each of us to a large extent, with some universal archetypes, but those are usually changed by the individual as well.)

12. Hi cassie...
I'm not at all sure what kind of oil it was.
I was rubbing the oil over the surface of the egg, with my hands, slowly and carefully--almost massaging it.

In the dream I seemed to feel that I had to "prepare" the egg.
When I say dressing it, I mean similar to the way one would rub oil on a candle to prepare it for a ritual candle burning, or ceremony.

It was a HUGE egg--I think it may have been hard-boiled (???) In that, I wasn't afraid of it breaking or hatching. I knew that it was whole, solid--inside and out. I felt like it was mine, but also felt I had to take care of it in a way--hence my rubbing the oil over it. (Not sure what I was preparing it for). I just knew I had to prepare it, and felt a sense of purpose about that.

I felt protective of the egg. I also felt kind of amazed that it was so large.
That an egg so large belonged to me.

:hi:
I appreciate your questions and hope that helps you to help me! :)

11. A couple more questions
I am assuming you meant dressing as in clothing, not dressing to eat like a salad?

Also was your sense that the egg was naked? Is that why you needed to dress it?
Or that is was cold?? Why did it need to be clothed?

13. Answers for you...
Edited on Tue Feb-27-07 07:55 PM by bliss_eternal

Yes, dressing like clothing--not to eat. Eating didn't even occur to me, so I know
that had nothing to do with it.

Was the egg naked...? Hmmmm... I don't think it was a sense of beind naked.
More that it wasn't ready. I had to help to make it ready by applying the oil
to it.

Though I'm not sure what I was preparing it for. But I felt a definite sense
of needing to get it ready for something--and of it being my responsibility
to do so. But I didn't feel put out by doing so. I wanted to. I seemed to
enjoy placing the oil on the egg. :)

14. Is there a situation in your life right now
in which you are helping someone get ready for something?
Or are you working on a project that is ready for a next stage?

Dreams can be a reflection of what is going on in our day to day life. Or they can be prophetic. Or a combination.

The elements of the dream that are interesting to think about:

You appear to have a strong investment in either a person, thing,
or perhaps part of yourself. You are preparing for a next stage of something. You are you are enjoying the process and feel ownership over it. And you feel secure that the project, person, or part of yourself will not waver or fail, they are strong.

The process is ready to move to another stage, you are gearing up for it and getting ready. You are not being impulsive, but going step by step and taking your time to do it right. You feel very positive about this next step. And you cannot believe how far you have come. It amazes you.

The next step will be the actual fruition of the project. The preparation time is over. Things will start happening in the next step.

What was your sense of when the egg would be ready for whatever you were getting it ready for?

15. eggs (giant) and oil (generic)
Cassie,
Your thoughts seem very interesting to me- that an egg can show an actual pregnancy. It certainly could, or something quite like an actual pregnancy or birth. It is interesting to me that WBard perceived the
same thing.
And then your analysis of all the different elements was quite useful in my thinking process, as well. I guess, in a cook-book sort of way, both egg and oil can denote an increase in money or resources. The egg being fully formed and hard boiled, seems to me, could show a project that is fairly well along by now, possibly not something new. And the size, also, might show a more fully formed idea or project.

18. Yes the egg is very interesting isn't it?
It is a complicated egg......yes your ideas are good. Keep going with them.

It is an egg, which indicates a beginning.
But it is large and hard boiled. Which means it is not a new egg.
One that has been around for a while and grown, but it is still an egg. And the boiled part is interesting too. That denotes strength, not a fragile egg.

The oil is denoting some attention and care given to the egg, some nurturing and working on it. All the love and care that is going into it. This is an emotional based project.

You can see that the kind of dream interpretation I do is totally different from most of the standard, ie cookbook. I do it tailored to each individual. More like a dream Rorschach. I avoid projecting my thoughts on it. Allow the person to tell me what their dream means to them. But also keeping Jungian archtypes in mind.

19. complicated egg
that sounds right. I am having lots of computer problems at the moment, keep being unable to go online. Which is ok, but I wanted to post while I am able to do so. Not that I had anything to say, really. Oh, well.

16. Hi cassie...
I had a sense that the egg would be ready sooner than I anticipated. I was rubbing the oil on it quite diligently. But I had this sense that the egg was hardboiled and would be ready as soon as I finished with applying the oil.

Oh, and I went into detail a bit--check your pm's. :hi:

Thank you for your insight, cassie. I'm finding this very helpful!
