Okay, folks, here is my first attempt at a graphic for my business card
Someone had suggested that for my logo for Stargazer Floral, I use stargazer lillies with stars shooting out. I just traced/drew this one, and would appreciate feedback. Remember, this is my first attempt, and I will probably have MrSG "draw" it for me with his computer programs he uses at work, so it will look better than this, but wanted to get a general idea of what you all thought. Also, pic quality isn't the best. Took it with my camera phone because I can't find the new batteries I got for my camera.

1. On the actual flower arrangement photo
I really liked the angles - or the overall shape - it had an upward movement in it

This is wider... and lost the upward movement. Maybe the two stars going to the right bothers me - not to eliminate but make them a little shorter and send them down? No, make them way longer, beyond the rose and send them down.

my 2 cents

:)

3. Overall .. (since you asked)
It is an interesting design. I can only say this because I'm a designer ... the buds are a bit confusing. The smallest should be the one extended, to keep true to nature's way. IOW, the two bud extentions would probably be better in reversed positions, going from larger to smallest.

4. Yes, I did ask, and I thank you for your comments, votes.
I like your idea. My graphic came from tracing over a picture of an actual bouquet (and not all the flowers were included in my graphic).

Again, this is just the first draft, so I appreciate the feedback of others. MrSG is going to run it through his graphic program at work, and then I can play with it some more.

5. Sounds like fun!
The most important thing is to have something that makes you comfortable. Designing logos can be very difficult. I admire your creativity. If it 'says' SG, it will be wonderful.

ps.. I like the star idea. When I design, I like to use ting ting or curly willow .. something to give it 'umph'. Not all the time, just enough to make the piece draw attention. The stars remind me of that.

The shop where I'm working this week gets a lot of tropical arrangements, and they do wonderful things with the vases and arrangements. It is really great to see that. Since I came back to TX in '96 I mostly worked in very traditional shops and sorely missed the stylized designs.

6. I definitely like to do more styilized things.

MrSG is very creative also, and I'm giving him the okay to tweak the design if he has an inspiration while working on it.

You know, the very first flower arrangements I did were for my wedding. They're still some of my favorites.

Here's something I did a couple of years ago for my Thanksgiving dinner centerpiece. The birch basket the flowers are in was made by the Chippewa, the tribe MrSG belongs to.

I'm going to have to scan some other pics to show you, primarily of the arrangements I've done on wedding cakes.

7. SeattleGirl, I personally prefer the photo that you used in your original thread.
This one:

The colors and lines were very aesthetically pleasing to me.

Good luck, and good work in reference to moving forward with your plan!

8. I confess, that is my preference too.
I'm looking at doing a graphic, due to cost concerns.

Though, if I engage in the LOA, well, who knows!

9. I really like the star idea
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 06:45 AM by cassiepriam
But I got confused by the tulips on the bottom....
it makes it look too busy??

But I am not a designer or artist, just 2 cents from the peanut crowd here.

Edit to add: I really like the idea of a graphic.....

10. Actually. they are roses
But I am seriously considering eliminating them. I think they clutter the design too much.

And cassie, 6 of my stargazer lillies are now blooming, and the whole room is filled with their beautiful scent!

12. I actually have five stems
Some of the blooms have not opened yet, so I expect to have this lovely aroma around for quite awhile.

Cassie, these flowers are for you. :loveya: :loveya: :loveya:

16. I would just use the Stargazer
or perhaps both of them and eliminate the rest. The Stargazer is simple and the name implies enough without the literal stars. Good luck and please post your revision! :)

17. The idea for the stars came from another poster here.
I like it, actually, but I'll see what the graphic looks like when MrSG does his magic with his graphics program at work.

Thanks for your input, dist22dem! :hi:

18. Maybe it's partly the colors in the photo that appeal to me so much.
And I think it's good to keep it simple. It's so fortunate that you have Mr.SG, to make a shared creation. That's a special kind of intimacy, you know it?

19. I really like it! And since I love design, I can't resist
the urge to play with it, so here are some things I would try...

I wonder if the lily on the left could be just a bit bigger than the other one, to kind of "pop" it forward? Also, I'd play with the star design a bit so that maybe the aren't all coming out in pairs, and perhaps more variation in the length of the star stems? More of a scattered look? I know this is just a mock up, but I think the stems of the stars might be more delicate looking. I really like the way most of the stems echo the basic shape of the lilies.

Also, I'd try the design without the rose...I think it might look better to keep it simple with the stargazers since that's the name.
I love the name and you couldn't have picked a prettier flower...good luck to you!

22. Play away!
I love the suggestions I've been getting.

The mock-up was done with felt pens, thus the star stems are a bit thicker than I would prefer also.

I'll see waht MrSG comes up with when he uses his graphics program.

Thanks for your ideas!

20. What happens if
you lose the rose and turn the drawing upside down? Is that a lily bud?
If not, maybe make that an opening lily bud....
Looks like you're having fun with this idea-yay!

25. UPDATE: MrSG has done a preliminary design using his
graphics program at work. He did three different styles of font. I chose the floral design from one card (some lines darker than others on the flowers), and font from another card, and am having him take out the roses from the floral graphic.

Once he makes those adjustments, I'll post it, and you can give me further feedback, if you wish.
