The theory of "the law of attraction" is that if you think and act like you already have what you want, then it will manifest. Kind of a mind over matter thing.
How do you think and act like you already have what you want? Instead of wanting money, for example, have yourself feel the emotional security/excitement/reward of having it.
You imagine being in possession of the thing - the movie suggests lists and other visual cues - then generate the emotional reward in yourself, feel it, and then go on with your business. That is, as long as your business isn't reinforcing feelings of want - you can't let yourself feel that emotion. Acting like you _want_ something is different and perpetuates the "Lack" of it. "Lack" and the emotions it triggers are definitely to be avoided.
I've used a similar trick to manage pain: if I have a twisted ankle and it hurts, then I focus on the ankle that doesn't. I think about how nice and limber and unpainful it is, and how happy that ankle makes me, and then the injured ankle's pounding lessens.
The application throughout the movie, though, is to have (notice I don't even use verbs suggesting lack like "attain") things you want. The movie does come off like an infomercial. I remember people expressing unhappiness in this forum that "the secret" was so materialistic in its presentation, but I think that it's kind of a practical exercise. If you think you have learned how to manifest a check, then you can manifest yourself a better knee, a happy home, peace between you and your neighbor.
It's even something you can look at from a skeptical standpoint: basically, people find what they look for. The process of generating and feeling the emotional reward of whatever it is that you've set as your goal is quite simply visualization and positive reinforcement. You're focused, perhaps even only subconsciously, on reaching that goal, which you've gone through the trouble of defining clearly for yourself. So then as you navigate through life you're (perhaps only subconsciously) recognizing and taking advantage of situations and opportunities that help you attain the goal.
It's a hard one to disprove, too. If you don't get what you want then it's your own fault for not imagining well enough and acting like you already have it.
That's the secret, an international best-seller! What a fun twenty-some minutes this has been. I would like to close with the following related thought.
I read this little mantra in this forum (thanks to whoever posted it first). Once in a while, when I'm overly distracted, I repeat it until I'm happy enough and re-dedicated to my work. It saves money on pharmaceuticals that claim to have the same effect. Take that, big pharma! ---- I AM abundance, financial freedom, and personal happiness. Now go forth, manifest, and sustain with grace!
Blessings upon you all! Especially you, Crowdance, I don't know you but you're not alone.
