but I read it and enjoyed what I understood. I probably need to read it again, as it's been six years.

I read it some years ago, and recently started to read it again, too.

But when I combine (just in general terms) other books regarding shamanism or traditional medicine men and their practices it helps. It also helps for me to have an anthropologist Mom. Later when I have time, I can take a picture of a Paiwan (Taiwan Natives) wooden sword sheath (headhunting) which also has a serpent. They say the snake is their "ancestor". Reserved for chiefs and it's household, normally these snake designs come in doubles.
