Deer ticks. I need a repellent.
With cats and dogs, they hitchhike into my home and then try to attach themselves to me. I just killed one a few minutes ago. We put Frontline on the animals, but it's not as effective on ticks as it is fleas. Does anyone know a botanical lotion to repel them. I have had some success with Tea Tree oil but I can't always find it in my neck of the woods. Is there any common herb that might work if you boil it into a salve?

1. I bathe my dogs with flea and tick shampoo weekly during this
time of year. Don't rely on just frontline. Ticks are the worst in the Spring and the Fall. It's difficult to even see them at certain stages, so be on your guard and don't skip the flea & tick shampoo at all until we get a good freeze...I don't know of any herb that is powerful enough to rely on or put your faith into when it comes to deer ticks. If you live in a wooded area they are even worst. Check your animals when they first come in, before the ticks get a chance to imbed into your pet's skin, wash bedding frequently also.

Lyme disease is prevalent in all areas where the deer tick thrives.

2. Halo Cloud Nine Herbal Dip is effective for both.
You can soak it into their collar and even put it into a spray bottle to spray your pets & yourself down. It is absolutely safe. Much safer than the Frontline stuff, which I won't allow on my animals. One of my friend's cats had a sudden allergic reaction to it and started seizing. The cat was fine, but I will never use it again.

3. this is hard for some people but
in tick season we don't let dogs or cats sleep in the bedroom or hang out too much in the living room. This is especially if you have pets that go outdoors all the time.

It's hard to police pets beyond the usual efforts at control. Ticks don't respond to any deterrent very well. Teatree oil helps, eucalyptus, lemongrass and citronella. Checking yourself a lot is maybe more important. And any odd summertime flus or rashes should not be ignored.

I do sympathize. I just don't think there's a magic solution when it comes to ticks.;(
