The Stars This Week - Oct. 16 - Oct. 22, 2006
Open Your Heart, Love is All Around You

10/16/06 - 10/22/06

This week, the Sun and Venus sextile both Saturn and Pluto on October 16 through 19. Sextiles -- 60-degree aspects -- are those of opportunity, and they give you the chance to maximize what's great in your life. The new Moon in Libra October 22 brings extra energy for new beginnings and fresh starts in your important relationships. By the end of the week, with Mercury conjunct to Jupiter and square to Saturn on October 23, you begin an important long-term discussion about your lifestyle. Start thinking about what kinds of changes will bring you contentment and happiness.

October 16: Sun sextiles Saturn; October 17: Sun sextiles Pluto

The Sun moves to sextile Saturn and Pluto, offering opportunities to maximize and solidify anything you are working on that is important to you. People in positions of authority notice you and reach out to you now. There is plenty of potential in this aspect to help you step into your power and create something incredible. Do it in a big way.

October 18: Venus sextiles Saturn; October 19: Venus sextiles Pluto

Where the Sun and Mars are about directing your life, Venus is all about how you relate to others. Looking for that soul connection? Venus sextiles Saturn and Pluto in the same week and brings every opportunity possible to meet new people and deepen your connections with those you already know. With such a stabilizing influence, this is a great time to bring up changes you would like to see in a relationship, since they will be incorporated smoothly.

October 22: New Moon in Libra

Venus and Mars, both in Libra, are traveling with the Sun. At the new Moon, these two relationship planets stand on either side of the Sun and Moon. That's a lot of Libra energy! Later this month the Sun, Venus and Mars all exit Libra at the same time and head into Scorpio, where they meet up in an intense discussion. But now they are focused on fairness and justice, and so are you. Getting along with everyone is important to you, and you are likely to invest quite a bit of energy into your relationships. Connecting with those you feel affection for will bring contentment. This is a great time to socialize, throw a party or go out to dinner with your best friend. The new Moon is always a time of new beginnings, so put energy into something you want to grow or become stronger in your life. The power of this new Moon phase is in effect until the full Moon on November 5.

October 22: Mercury conjuncts Jupiter and squares Saturn

This week, single-minded Mercury in Scorpio conjuncts excessive Jupiter and squares serious Saturn, connecting the Jupiter/Saturn square that will become exact next week. Mercury's square to Saturn actually rolls into next week, but it is important now because there is a tendency to talk too much and get in trouble for it. (Think twice before you open your mouth.) You'll be living with whatever you say well into next month and possibly even into December. We'll have more information about this aspect at the end of the month.

1. This is going to sound bizarre, but ...
.... I can't help but think, when I read these things, that this is how it should or would be - in my case at least - had I not exercised free will and done X which threw me off the "cosmic path".

Question: Can one get back on "their path" after a boneheaded decision or two has led them out into the boondocks?

2. Not bizarre at all, Lizzie!
Just follow your nose! I've always found that when I'm resisting the path I'm supposed to be on, I end up having a miserable old time. For instance, when I was supposed to be studying (my year-and-a-day before I was initated as a witch), I didn't want to--my group of partying friends was more attractive (I thought). I resisted and resisted and resisted until my partying clique exploded (practically literally, just shy of flying body parts) and I was left with nothing (socially and romantically speaking). Why? Because that phase of my life had ended and I needed to follow my path toward the future. So I did, and it was the right thing to do.

Then again, just to throw a monkey wrench into the works, what if there are no wrong paths? Another f'rinstance--I went to grad school to be a teacher. I taught for one year and realized it wasn't for me. My parents bemoaned the whole adventure--"such a shame, such a waste, you lost several years of your life, and oh the money, and such a respectable profession--and oh the pension" etc. etc. etc. But, really, DID I waste my life? I learned how to live in a big city while I was in grad school. I made friends and learned from them and taught them things. I touched some lives as a teacher, albeit my short time doing so, and I know at least some of the kids appreciated what I had to offer. I don't consider that wasted time at all. I used to think I had gotten off my correct path, but maybe it was a necessary detour. (Especially because, during the summer after I quit my one-and-only teaching job, I spent a TON of time in the town, riding out my apartment lease, doing nothing but studying the esoteric arts on my own. It was a couple of years later I started studying in earnest.)

Anyway, I'm blathering and probably confusing the issue. Bottom line is do what feels right and pay attention to where the universe is pushing you, and that will be your cosmic path!
