I've got to get rid of the roommate!
This borders on legal advice. The laws in Texas are so huh?
This guy is totally creeping me out. Has been forever. He shoved his way in here actually.
I'm not all that great at boundaries.. yet!

Austin is a very transient town, and it is hard to find a decent place to live.
People always looking. I interviewed about 8 people and this guy was the only one to actually have cash in hand to pay. I was lonely and looking for someone to help defray costs, ya know? Why else would I want a roommate?

Now I want him to leave. He is a hermit. Doesn't even speak unless spoken to. Not even a hello.
I'm getting bugs in my room. I had to take a peak into his, even though I do not want to go into people's private spaces. There were about 20 coke cans. He eats in there and there was a muffin on the window seal. I don't need to make a case that this guy is LOSER-ville. He promised to cut the lawn for THREE WEEKS. I have a weed eater. That's what the former used to cut. This guy claims to have a friend right around the corner to borrow a lawn mower. I don't think he has any friends at all. Never seen a trace. I don't have the upper body strength to do this whole yard with the weed eater. He says he will finish the job today. If not, I'm hiring someone, and it will be added to his bill. I used to do it for my former roommate, just a small patch, and it took me two days. I'm not a big brawn or anything. dammit ... I just hate it when people obligate themselves to take on a chore and then do nothing! I don't even know if he eats. There is a great kitchen here. I've seen him make a sandwich or two and take to his room to eat.
I've had it. I don't want to live with a freaking HERMIT. I don't need constant attention. Love my alone time and all. But civil? Too much?

I put another ad on craigslist and am getting hits. I'm just so straight up and honest. I just don't want a bug breeder in the other room. I never even know if he is home or not because he's a bus rider and doesn't have a vehicle. I made the best decision I could at the time.

I need to evict him. He is not on the lease other than being a resident. I am the sole signator to the lease and have to guarantee everything stays in order. Not saying I'm perfect. Do have to make patches here and there, but I DO! Why can't people live up to their word?

I'm venting :steam: Sheet. I just want a peaceful existence. This is a great location. Rent is not too bad, etc. I guess I got really spoiled in my former space. Didn't realize how good I had it.

I hate the thought of starting eviction proceedings. I wish he would just leave and let me try again with someone who isn't a hermit. HOW do you get rid of a roommate? Not gratitude?

1. take a broom
into your room and lay it on the floor with the bristles pointing toward the spot where this person sleeps. Just leave it there. It doesn't harm anyone - it just gives them the urge to move elsewhere.

It's worked for me a couple of times, although I confess the one I currently have with bristles pointing toward the White House hasn't had an effect yet.

6. Seriously...
even if you don't (talking to votes) "believe" this would work, it helps focus your INTENTION to get him to leave, so same difference really.
Try intending it very hard for a day or so. If nothing happens, take phisical action.

When I had that guy here a few months ago that I posted about (the one I thought was literally a vulture-scared the living crap outta me)--all I had to do was to INTEND very hard and he up and left the next day.

Thank goodness.

Best of luck, hon, I will be thinking about you.

2. Have you tried
asking him to leave?

How long is he paid up for? Tell him his rental ends when his paid-up time ends. If he resists, you may have a problem. What does your lease say about you sub-letting? Find out what your local laws are about being able to evict a tenant.

That's just a start. Good luck.

Also, not sure why you posted this in the astrology part. You might get more reponses if you reposted this in GD.

5. Yes. I have asked him
to find other arrangements. He says he's "looking". It might help if he shaved and got a hair cut.
I'm telling you... I was in a weak moment when I let him in.

Reminds me of the Michael Keaton movie, Pacific Heights. Meg won in the end. Wish me well.

3. I put one of my roomate's belongings outside the door and
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 03:36 PM by Cleita
changed the locks. That was extreme I know, but the circumstances were extreme after she put me through six months of hell. I didn't hide the fact that I wanted her to move out. I begged her everytime I saw her. The last straw was when she left for a weekend ski outing with another guy and her steady boyfriend found out about it.

He barged into our apartment (I didn't know she had given him a key) refused to leave and proceeded to get drunk on whiskey he had brought with him. I finally was able to get his brother to remove him from my apartment. He was so shitfaced by then, he didn't argue with big brother. That's when I packed her stuff, got the manager to change the lock, and put her stuff outside.

She made a big scene when she returned but the manager backed me up and told her she had to leave and if she didn't he'd call the cops. She packed her stuff in her car and left. I vowed then I would never have another roomate. This apartment cost me half of my salary, but I made up for it by getting a second job. It was far less traumatic.

8. I hear you..
I am going back to my old job tomorrow and do not need any more of his drama-ville.
I have a life to live too. There has always been something spooky about this person.
I had just gotten out of hospital when he insisted he had to move in.
I have called his boss, who gave him a passable grade. Left a message with the person who at least impersonates his last roommate. I'm not so sure that happened.

I don't want him here. I can't ask my landlord for assistance because he just wants the payments on time and no hassles.

7. Here is a link which may help
http://www.law.uh.edu/peopleslawyer/tenant3.html

I just scanned the article, so didn't go into great depth.
Now, when you DO give him notice, be firm...and I would do it in writing with a witness present.
The article may be more specific, but I am just thinking ahead if you need to get the authorities to give him more motivation if you get my drift.

Here is a hug for strength

9. Thanks
You know this summer was hell due to a boyfriend roommate, who left me with a pile of bills and freaky stuff I don't even know what the hell. He had our gas statements sent to some unknown address. He never paid electric. I wanted to think he was a good guy.. but the evidence piled up that um no. Who the hell knows who he was. I sure don't. And I lived with him. It was always a new day in the land of Oz kind of thing.

I think the next roommate I get will be vetted more thourougly. We will have to AGREE.
My call to Eddy's boss got him suspended. He was asked not to come into work today. I'm sorry for that.
I don't think it was just me, but just because he is a very troubled person and needs some kind of help. He is so hostile. That is not normal.

His former roommate left a nasty message on my machine last night when I was over vistiting the neighbor. I called him back. I am a pretty calm person most of the time. I said WTF is this about? And you too? Eddy had implicated him in drug dealing. I don't give a shit, ya know. But I don't want a bug person in my house. His former said they would have him out by this weekend. He said he had the same problem with him and the trash/emtpy coke cans left around, which draw BUGS. JESUS. My neighbor told me, don't ever rent to someone who looks like that. I thought about telling him I know how to give hair cuts, but I'm not sure he wants one. He could use a good shave, ya know? He looks like a street person. Which is not all that uncommon in Austin. We're a natural bunch. But again JESUS. Roommate hell. I'm waiting for the housing bubble to bust, it is coming. And then I'm buying my own house and won't have to put up with this sheet any more.

Thanks for listening.

10. Interesting thread for this forum....
1) Give him a "do or die" date. Put it in writing that he will be out by whatever date (include a time) you decide. Tell him in writing his stuff will be out on the curb unless he's already moved by then. Change the locks.

2) Don't expect or even ask him to mow the lawn or anything else related to the property. Take care of that stuff yourself.

3) If you want to get real aggressive, print out a couple of "room for Rent" listings and slide them under his door every couple of days.
