Need some light
Hi all, I usually don't ask for such things because I don't think I'm worthy but I do need some positive light. I'm afriad to send it to myself because, like always, I'll probably make things worse for me. I made a post about the Oscars and a diseenting view from those here on the board and have been called all sorts of things. I'm not claiming to be innocent but I was attacked nothing more for my POV of a movie and I guess I've been having a hard time of dealing with personal attacks all the way from calling me stupid to a homophobic person. Of course the mods don't care about false personal attacks and I'm really disappointed in how people have been having for diseenting views. So thanks for the read.

1. I'll send you light FreedomAngel82
People are so passionate about their feelings on so many scary issues that they too often attack their own over non-issues. I see it all the time, and it's hard to be attacked. That's why I read more posts than write them. (I get enough of this I can't avoid from my two teenaged kids.) I love reading your posts, so don't stop. Just keep your spirits high, your heart pure and your intentions good. Steer away from unnecessary controversy and keep your focus on that positive outlook you so successfully achieved over the past few months. In the meantime, I'm sending as much light as I can.

2. Thanks
I usually don't like to ask because I feel so guilty. One of the many reason's I stay out of GDP. Dissenting views just aren't allowed whether about a 2008 presidential candidate or a movie. *sigh*

12. You can have any opinion you want.
At one time I was distressed by some of the things I read here. One of them still really bugs me, but I trust it will work out.

I don't know why some people feel the need to strike out at others. It did happen to me once, however. Not on this site, but someone was downing women and I just had enough. So I typed some things I shouldn't have.

Sorry that happened to you.

Something that I realized recently that helps me is to think, I have my own belief system. Other people have their's. Some of them believe stuff that someone else made up a long time ago. So that's supposed to be better than the stuff I made up. I think the stuff I made up is just as good as anyone else's. So, I'm sticking with it.

Give them the freedom to act like jerks. It is painful. I know some real doozies in real life.
. Peace, sista.

3. Sounds as though you need to stay here for a while where you're...
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 05:47 AM by I Have A Dream
safe and loved, FA82. Just release the controversy -- whoever did that to you doesn't know you, so try not to take it personally. It's about them -- not you. It takes tough skin to go into some of those forums, and many of us, including me, just feel things too much to be able to handle it all the time.

I ask that the Universe clear you of the feelings of betrayal that you feel because you were attacked in what's supposed to be a safe place. I also ask that you feel the love that we have for you here in this group and that it lifts your spirits again so that you again have balance. (This or something better for the highest good of all involved.)

I got some nice sleep even though I had a weird dream. I realized that what total strangers and what they said doesn't mean anything. You're right that they don't know me and don't care to know me. So thanks. :grouphug:

4. Hi friend
I wrote to you in that last post before it was locked. You have every right to your own opinion. Some people (especially in GD) just want to argue. Also, you are worthy, you just got a beating from some verbal thugs. I will send you light and love. You are safe and you are worthy. :loveya:

5. Please don't think about it any more.
I saw and replied to your post, and I was dismayed at the rabidity that frothed from so many of our brothers and sisters.

Keep in mind also, please, that many members here have suffered because of homophobia. There are their sensitivities to consider. Perhaps some were stung that you "didn't care."

But you do know that what other people think about us is not our business, even when we open ourselves up by posting our opinions in a public forum. Try to clear their attacks from your mind. If they continue to echo, ring a bell.

It's a crappy game. We come to DU for support and likemindedness, then we get scolded and chided and goaded and mocked and smilied and scoffed. And sometimes there's the hugs, too.

I trust that you're not stupid, and you're not a homophobe. You're just wearing a little messy from a miscommunication on a message board. I get the same messy from the anti alt-medicine crowd sometimes. It washes off.

 and

7. I just think the whole thing is ridiculous
Going around claiming a movie didn't win an awards show because of a phobia. :eyes: Gee dull plot or dull acting? And now because I could care less about seeing a movie that means I apply to that as well. :eyes: I didn't care to see "Hotel Rwanda" so does that mean I'm racists? LOL. Please. But I'm glad to have my star, thanks to I Have a Dream, to where all of us have one place we can come to. :grouphug:

8. You may be right, but you may be wrong, too.
And I think that's what many of your criticizers were responding to.

Perhaps you're right, perhaps "Crash" was just the better movie. But you also can't eliminate the possibility that the academy may have decided to tread cautiously. You have no evidence, and neither do your detractors. It's a stand-off, and you must decide if you want to drag it on or not.

I understand your request for light and support, and it's yours. The movie argument is better off in another forum or group.

11. Angel, please just let it roll off your back!
You are always positive and so kind to others. Their behavior is ON THEM!

You are so special to all of us, and you ARE worthy. Don't ever lose sight of that. At times I too have felt less than worthy but, I remind myself of how Jesus looked upon all people and the feeling quickly passes.;-)

9. Don't let them get to you!

I'll grant you, it isn't easy sometimes, but you just can't let it get to you.

This is an internet message board and there are some people that just love to be "keyboard warriors" that run about acting in ways they'd never consider in face to face situations. I try not to take it personally if somebody acts like an ass on here--especially out on the main boards like GD, GDP or LBN. It just isn't worth it to me to spend my energy getting all bent out of shape because some idjit wants to vent anger in a place where retribution really isn't too likely. I have a finite amount of personal energy to spend every day and I'd much rather just move on to something positive.

Plus, Ya gotta figure that someday they will be getting that same thing back and THEN you can laugh at them in the privacy of your own home...

My advice is skip the main boards for a couple of days and just hang in places like this one or even the Lounge...

14. Sorry you got attacked. You don't deserve it.
I know there are things that you and I don't agree on always but we seem to keep it civil. I haven't seen either movie so I can't comment, but sometimes you have to develop a thick skin in GD. I've been called all kinds of things from stupid to illogical to get this, a woman hater, from less than polite DUers, many of whom turned out to be closet freepers. One guy even called me a racist. I'm the person who sticks my neck out to point out the racism many DUers still have and don't realize that they have. I had to really shake that one off.

My personal motto is to be true to myself and my beliefs and to stick to my opinions no matter what criticism I get. If there is something wrong with my beliefs then you will have to persuade me that I am wrong, however, attacking me will never convince me of the error of my ways. Anyway this helps to me keep grounded and my perspective clear. The ignore function is also very helpful although I only have one DUer on it right now.

I will send you light and in time you will shake this off as you find people who appreciate you are more in numbers than those that don't.

15. Thanks Cleita
I try to never attack anybody but when people start attacking me from no where I'm going to defend myself. I did alert the mods on some attacks that I felt were unjusitifable. I just think it's all ridiculous. :eyes: But last night laying in bed I realized they were just total strangers who don't care to know me and that I've been through much worse crap than a few name's. :eyes: People who know me know who I am, what I believe etc. And if they want to be jerks it's not my karma. So thanks you guys for letting me vent and helping me cool down. :grouphug:
