I forgot that 2006 is the Year of the Dog.
Thoughts? I read that it's generally good for finance and prosperity. Anyone else?

1. Not sure
I do think 2006 will be a good year for the country. You can feel it. I haven't done any readings yet though or gotten any messages.

2. Here's a link I just found:
http://www.usbridalguide.com/special/chinesehoroscopes/dog.htm

I'm a dog, Earth Dog, and I'm hoping this is a good year.

I just finished a "Celestial Circle" reading for myself (a card for every month, plus one card as a general theme for the year), and it's looking "interesting".

6. I'm a dog too
Hehe. So what does that mean for us? I hope this will be a good year for me. Only thing wrong with this description with me is the whole friend thing. I'm not too popular and I'm loyal to friends.

THE WATER DOG 1922 AND 1982

These Dogs have great foresight and are well-educated on many different things. This quality helps them appreciate other points of view, making them quite flexible and liberal. They are easygoing, but this can cause them to be too spendthrift with money and less loyal with friends. Still, because of their flexible natures and their ability to appreciate difference, these Dogs always have friends and are usually popular people.

3. But remember ...

Chinese New Year does not begin on January 1. Although the celebrations begin now, the date actually changes each year.

~snip~
Chinese New Year (Chinese: 春節, 春节, Chūnjíe; or 農曆新年, 农历新年, Nónglì Xīnnián), also known as the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It consists of a period of celebrations, starting on New Year's Day, celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Chinese calendar, i.e. the day of the second new moon after the day on which the winter solstice occurs, unless there is an intercalary eleventh or twelfth month in the lead-up to the New Year—in such a case, the New Year falls on the day of the third new moon after the solstice. (The next time this occurs is in 2033.) The Chinese New Year period ends with the Lantern Festival, the fifteenth day of the month.

I only recently realized this. I'm still somewhat confused. More research needed.

edit:

~snip~
When is the Chinese New Year's Day in Year 2006?
January 29, 2006 is the first day of the new year.

4. New year is usually in February - includes link
which, being born February, I had to find the particular date the New Year actually occurred. For a long time I thought I was born in the year of the Ox. About ten years ago I found out that I was actually born in a Rat (metal) year.

Here's one website where you can enter your birthdate and find what year and element you were born under. http://www.asiaflash.com/rao/your_chinese_sign.shtml

7. FWIW: from my Chinese Restaurant Calendar
Which features the pup prominently at the top:

DOG: Loyal, responsible and deep sense of justice.

Also honest and very generous.

We're coming out of the Year of the ROOSTER: Outgoing, intelligent and hardworking. Can be selfish and egoistic.

Not that one should take the advice of a calendar from the local Chinese restaurant....different traditions are simply interesting to me. :)

The Year of the Dog will also be the Year of Bush's****** DOWNFALL!

That's the one I want to see. Hey! Maybe we could start manufacturing partisan fortune cookies! With progresive messages.

Oh, the possibilities.....

10. You forgot to add "in bed" to it.
"The Year of the Dog will also be the Year of Bush's****** downfall.." IN BED.

Errr.. wait a minute. My brain hurts and my mind's eye just exploded. Maybe we don't want to play that fortune cookie game in this particular situation...

Never mind.

11. My rooster year just passed and yes it is dog. I do occasionally check
the website. I am in no way on top of Feng Shui but it is quite interesting:

This analysis is done by Geomancy.Net using a combination of Chinese Astrology (Zi Wei Dou Shu) with Ba Zi Analysis.

NOTE: This is done using only 12 Earthly Branch / Animal Signs, so it gives you a general analysis of each Animal sign. It will not be as accurate as a Professional Ba Zi analysis. As each Year such as those born in the Rat Year has further 10 divisions (ie. weak/strong water Rat, weak/strong Wood Rat, weak/strong Fire Rat, weak/strong Earth Rat, weak/strong Metal etc). So depending on what kind of element you are, your luck will change accordingly. This analysis however, will give you some basic understanding for example whether a weak/strong water Rat is generally good or bad this year.

Earth Dog is a Fire Year.

As the Fire Year strengthen the Earth Dog, this is generally a very auspicious year.

Birth Element which will enjoy a favourable/unfavourable year etc.
Strong Wood, weak Fire, weak Earth
weak Wood, Strong Earth, weak Metal

Compatible Animal Signs
this year:-
Excellent - Tiger, Rabbit, Horse
Avoid - Dragon, Ram, Rooster

Good Travel Direction
this year:-
Wood - East/South-East
Fire - South

13. These seem so right for my family.
Hubby and I were just talking tonight about our son (a metal dragon). He is sooooo active, very outgoing, very much not like the others in our family, but has a spark and intensity about life, that if directed correctly could be a hint of great potential. Hubby is a water tiger, I'm a water rabbit and our daughter is a water rooster - we are very different from him. There is a feeling that he emanates energy, which at times is tiring to us all. It's the intensity I think. He's bright as a whip, but we are working on him to be gentle with others who don't pick up as fast as he does.

Thanks for posting the link. Hubby and I are trying to find a way to channel his energy into something creative that he would enjoy. The ideas in the bio of the Dragon will help, I'm sure.
