The angels gave me a new theme song
The other night I was talking with my angels because I couldn't fall asleep. I was pouring my heart out, about how stressed and lost I felt (it comes and goes and just then it was consuming me). I fell asleep in mid-thought and when I woke up the next morning, this was in my head: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLQRW7J_D0U

(I posted the live version because of the energy of the live performance--plus the bonus of a couple of shots of an absolutely BAKED keyboardist. After the first minute or so, the producers decided maybe they shouldn't show him again. )

I swear, I haven't thought about this song in YEARS--more like decades! But funnily enough (or not ;) ), it fits. Actually, I couldn't even remember anything besides the lines that were in my head when I woke up, specifically "I heat up, I cool down / When something gets in my way I go round it"--had to look it up on blessed Google.

Feel free to adopt it as your theme song too, if you like--I think it would fit most, if not all, of us lately! :hi:

Ain't got no trouble in my life,
No foolish dream to make me cry.
I'm never frightened or worried,
I know I'll always get by.
I heat up, I cool down
When something gets in my way I go round it.
Don't let life get me down
Gonna take life the way that I found it.

I got the music in me, I got the music in me
I got the music in me
I got the music in me, I got the music in me
I got the music in me

They say that life is a circle
But that ain't the way that I've found it.
Gonna move in a straight line
Keeping my feet firmly on the ground.
I heat up, I cool down
I got words in my head so I say them.
Don't let life get me down,
Catch a hold of my blues and just play them.

Feel funky, Feel good
Gonna tell ya
I'm in the neighborhood
Gonna fly like a bird on the wing
Hold on to your hat honey,
Sing, sing, sing, sing
Heat up, cool down
I got words in my head so I say them
Don't let life get me down
Catch a hold of my blues and just play them.

Ain't got no trouble in my life,
No foolish dream to make me cry.
I'm never frightened I'm never worried,
I know, I know I'll always get by.

1. Dig it, sistah!
I have not heard this song enough to know the words, so thanks for that.
Really powerful lyrics, I guess I have a new earworm!

we had a singing group here for my work at the nonprofit arts group (5 HAWT brothers, a capella singers!)
...they have a few songs that have stuck with me recently...
like:
"I'm in a hurry to get things done
I rush & rush until life's no fun,
all i wanna do is to live & die
But I'm in a hurry and I don't know why
OHHH
So i gotta stop
and take a breath
look around me
and bless my rest..." etc...

these guys actually wrote the song the last time they were here in Tahoe, so it's kinds sweet :)

2. the subconscious is an amazing thing
How it comes up with this stuff that's so perfect.

So now tell me, why do I wake up every morning hearing the Beach Boys singing "Surfer Girl?"

4. I know, right?
Honestly, I'm not exaggerating when I say I haven't thought about that song in decades.

The angels often speak to me in music, but I'm always amazed at what they come up with.

Now..."Surfer Girl", eh? That's a good one! It's pretty soothing and sweet, and the rhythm is wave-like (those guys knew how to play up their image for sure), a gentle rocking. That's a pretty nice way to wake up, actually! :)

Which once had, appropriately enough, an important place on an episode of Medium...where I first heard it.

Band has an interesting history, too (the Wiki article is hysterical.)
