A heretical observation about astrology

Even though I don't claim to understand astrology beyond the basics, and even though I definitely appreciate the value of it as Rick, Stella and others patiently impart its inherent wisdom, there is an aspect of how it's perceived and interpreted that always bothers me.

(Granted, it could be due to my own ignorance that I have this reaction, but I'm sharing it nonetheless in case it hits home with anyone else.)

Whether it's archeology, physics, astrology or any other discipline, what troubles me is that, rather than merely study the current evidence to learn what we can from it, we humans keep thinking and analyzing and applying the knowledge within our current limited capacities.

In other words, when we read/hear about certain conditions that appeared in the past with really intense events having unfolded -- be it astrological conditions, economic conditions, whatever -- we tend to have a knee-jerk reaction that similar results will happen when those conditions reappear.

We keep hearing and saying that we learn from history in order to prevent repeating it, but solutions to our current issues and problems are often in the form of previous historical solutions rather than COMPLETELY NEW and innovative solutions that are hard for us to even conceive of with our limited knowledge and awareness.

It's that whole thing about thinking outside the box, but I support the approach of getting rid of the damn box altogether.

We look at these disciplines and instead of using the information and knowledge to learn from the past, we inadvertently keep STAYING in the past.

Just because certain events manifested when there was a previous similar planetary alignment, it doesn't mean similar events will occur when that alignment presents itself again. I don't believe that's the case, anyway. I believe if we look at it differently, the results can be different, too.

Whenever we evaluate past events and conditions which were positive, most of us are good about envisioning positive outcomes when the same conditions are present. But when we're evaluating negative past events and conditions, it's hard for people to envision a different result when similar conditions present themselves -- because we haven't yet experienced it.

We keep putting ourselves into that damn box.

I don't believe astrologers intend for people to react with fear or dread whatsoever, but perhaps it's human nature -- which is still so steeped in fear and survival mode -- to correlate previous events to what is destined to happen once again when the same conditions and elements present themselves.

I tend to not get mired in the complexities of any discipline -- not only because my brain can't absorb it... (and for those who do love the complexities I fully realize it is a passion and you're not "mired" in anything) -- but because I prefer to try to look at everything anew, rather than how it's been perceived and interpreted thus far, though certainly being mindful of the historical significance.

Since astrology is a central theme of discussion here, I wonder if we could look at these astrological patterns and wisdom in a completely new way -- personally and collectively -- rather than from a perspective of being contained in our personal and collective historical boxes which limit us so much, imho.

1. It is hardly heretical to ask questions
and encourage people to transcend what has been.

From many perspectives, we have access to energies that are completely unprecedented on this sphere. They are compelling us all to shift our consciousness and evolve.

I've written for many years about this promise and feel at the depth of my soul as though I've been waiting for this transitional time for 5000 years.

The last time I was on a writing role was 6 years ago.

My son summarized 120 pages of my writing at that time into a singular stupid bar joke.

He said. . .

"So-o-o. . .this amazingly miraculous energy previously unavailable to
humanity, walks into a bar. The bartender says. . ."woh. . . ?" Everybody
gets enlightened."

He's a bit of a prankster and goodness knows from where he got that.

So go figure.

2. Go figure....

Amazing son, amazing parent, amazing spirits.

I'm with you. I'm sooooooo ready.

I just feel it's so easy -- so human -- to stagnate and get caught in the same cycles, without even allowing the idea of transcending what has been, as it applies to everyday practices -- including astrology and other tools.

We always talk about transcending and evolving but putting it into practice -- or rather allowing it -- in practical ways is often a different ballgame.

Thanks.

3. I find myself referring to the movie "Groundhog Day"
Over and over again. So much so that I wonder if I am stuck in "Groundhog Day." What the movie teaches us is that we CAN learn from repitition of the same events, and that we can transform them. The energy of the day stays the same, but they can be transformed by the actions of a single transformed human. However, it is not exactly an easy path.

So, it is probably the same with astrological alignments. The energies of the alignments are pretty much the same, but the actions of enlightened beings can transform the whole energy. Until that happens, we do seem a bit doomed to repeat the same thing. Moving past it all is probably our challenge and our goal.

We repeat things until we are ABLE to move past them. Since I do energetic clearings I was thinking I probably need to do some on astrological alignments. Alas I don't know enough about those at this point. It is just something I have in the back of my mind.

5. I could have sworn I replied to this...
I think I am accomplishing a lot in another dimension, but it hasn't filtered down to this one yet.

Anyway, thanks for sharing, Celebration. I think the idea you mention for an energetic clearing sounds like a great idea.

OGR is exactly right. However, there are many other factors to consider. Non-astrologers are at a great disadvantage because they really don't understand how to weight one planet's importance vs another. Even students of years have a hard time doing that. And, understanding the archetypal meaning of what is happening is not easy.

I agree about the box.

If the planet are in a similar pattern as they were years ago, you WILL have a very experienc ARCHETYPALLY. But that does not mean on the physical plane, for example, you get an earthquake, you will again.

ASTROLOGY IS AN ARCHETYPAL SCIENCE.

That's why it's ALL POSITIVE, as I've said so many times, the planets are not our to get you. That is a very egocentric way of looking at the world where we think we're so important.

They're just energies. Like waves.

When I was new, when students are new, when readers are new at astrology, you are going to sweat when a planet is approaching BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO FRAME OF REFERENCE.
Planets approaching are LIFE, that's it! That's why my next book will be called "The Intimate Zodiac" that's what it will be about.

When a planet comes, many of us get lost in "I'm not feeling well! I'm sick! I'm stressed!, etc."
It's not the planet that is doing it, it is the fact that we are not in harmony with our inner self.
THE BOX means that we think we can keep CONTROL of our insides!

First of all: there are no insides, or outsides for that matter
Secondly: we can't CONTROL anything

Life is a current, if we are in touch, we bob up and down, yes, sometimes we tip over.

Tragedies happen to us (generally) because we've been pushing a problem down for a long long time and we know it.
Sometimes, it is true, it comes from karmic situations which provides a great cop out by the way.

Astrology is a calendar of your readiness. When you are ready, that doesn't mean you are consciously READY THO!
That's the problem, that's resistance, that's not being in touch with yourself, and that's what presents us with our perceived problems.

I hope I am addressing some of OGR's points here.

In other words, stay in your own truth, stay in God's/Goddesses'/The Universe's flow/will and generally you will be in good shape. The key, in my opinion, is that that there is NO YOU. (other than an illusory body)

When there is a you, you are separate.
and we all know that separation is an illusion and an impossibility.
When we are one with "God" or all together, our PROBLEMS minimize or fade, it's not easy, but it's true and that's
why we have the phrase: "Let go and Let God". It is true.

There is no box, unless we insist on one and thereby maintain it. There never was one.

We're all doing great! We're evolving at a tremendous rate just in time for 12/21/12 11:11am GMT :grouphug:

7. Does that answer any of your questions?
or am I way off? I understand your very perceptive question; I find it hard to answer in words but think it can be.
I know very clearly what you mean by the "box". :loveya:

8. Yes, sir. I didn't really have questions so much...
but more just a layperson's suggestion that perhaps we open our minds about astrology along with other disciplines studied throughout time.

:loveya: back
