I'm finally focusing on this and enlisting help, and I know many of you have your own list of great resources, so I'm posting here as well....

1. A shoutout to kentauros...
who previously provided an awesome list of health-related resources.

:yourock:

Where ARE you, btw? I don't think I've seen you here in a while?

:(

3. In the Chicago suburbs
there is the Humanitarian Service Project and People's Resource Center. Both are excellent organizations with food pantries plus additional supports. Humanitarian Service Project provides additional resources for seniors and Peoples Resource teaches computer skills, job search assistance and ESL. Both organizations help families provide Christmas presents. Humanitarian Service project even helps get Bday presents for needy kids.

PADS is the local homeless "shelter". The shelter location changes every night- an aspect that I think is horrible. However, I understand they also try and help people find a more permanent solution and that seems better than "just" a bed. Further, it is known to be fairly safe. This organization has been around since the 80's, and when it started there were no shelters or resources for people in this area.
