Okay, I'll be the one who brings it up.
"Hereafter", directed by Clint Eastwood. I'd pass on it entirely except that Mr. Eastwood is a marvelous director, and that is from me, extreme praise. I'm just wary that it won't be accurate regarding the truth of things mystic (I'm not Looking in order to know, because that can cause too much info to come up, and I've ruined more than one entertainment by having the ending pop up!).

Is anyone else excited about it? Cautious about it?

1. I definitely want to see it...
it's about the only thing that looks good that will be released (other than Social Network, which I thought was very good) this month. Movies this year have all but sucked.

2. I find that I have been disappointed in movies
that have delved into this topic in the past, but I'm willing to keep my mind open that this movie will be different until it proves otherwise.

3. ... I thought it was another telling of the James vonPragh story
... when I saw Damon's 'character' ... beyond that, I don't know too much about the story and really haven't been too piqued to see it.

4. I'll see it soon.
I also like Eastwood's movies :)

As for movies with similar themes, there are still a few that I like. Such as "Stir of Echoes", "Vibes" (although it's a comedy), "Resurrection", and a German one that I've only seen bits of, "Hanussen". It is an unfortunate thing that the last one is exceptionally difficult to find. Seems like the best ones almost always are ;)

Perhaps the intangible feeling you've picked up
is I read a short interview of Mr. Eastwood about the movie (and I absolutely love him), and he said he's not a believer but he's just going to tell the story, like it was just a job. And I wondered about that, you know, how much passion is he willing to put into it and will it show? I mean I've seen enough mystical dramas and to read the director's lack of enthusiasm left me kind of un-enthused to see it.

I figured he must have done a fine job based on a lot of good reviews I've seen so far.

I'm going to wait for it to come to cable :eyes:

5. Being a medium myself, I am very interested in seeing it,
just to see how close the movie is to what I've experienced.

9. I understand that.
:hi: One of my sisters Always gets a good nap in during a movie at the theater. It doesn't matter how exciting or action-packed, if she has to sit for that long, her body shuts down.

10. We saw it this evening
It's an interesting story, but there was something missing. They treated the whole idea of psychics very well -- portraying both the legitimates and the non-legitimates.

The problem I think I had is they let some stories within the main story fall away when they should have developed them, and spent way too much time on stuff that didn't really matter. It was confusing at first, but once we figured out where they were going, it was enjoyable enough, but, again, undeveloped sub-plots really had us disappointed.

Would be a good rental for a rainy Sunday afternoon.

11. the one trailer I saw didn't move me one bit
Edited on Sun Oct-24-10 07:25 AM by northernlights
which worries me since the trailers are supposed to entice you in.

On the other hand, I do like Eastwood's movies a lot, and Matt Damon can be very good as well. That he's not passionate about the topic and just doing the job I think is a good thing. When I was a writer I wasn't passionate about computers, but I was passionate about my job. That helped me do what needed to be done, it gave me the clarity I needed -- my promotional writing was considered top notch (called NY/Paris agency quality) by my more knowledgable bosses (eg, Harvard/Oxford English lit PhD with 15 years industry experience. Frankly, the passionate about computer people wrote pretty crappy copy, whether technical or promotional

The good news for me is I get to see it (or Social Network) for free. Local theatre gives free viewing on your birthday :D Until last year it seemed every movie showing on my b-day was a crappy, slasher, sacriligious Halloween slasher flick. Last year was something worth going to (although ended up very forgettable).

So I'm hoping that with either choice, I end up with a decent free movie for a change. :D
