Anybody read the Fourth Turning?

Talks about the last 3 Turnings (the Unraveling, Collapse and Resurgence)in the US historically
"During each of these periods, Americans celebrated an ethos of frenetic and laissez-faire individualism (a word first popularized in the 1840's) yet also fretted over social fragmentation, epidemic violence, an economic and technological change that seemed to be accelerating beyond society's ability to absorb it.

And during each period, Americans were victorious in wars against a foreign threat.

1760's-- followed by the American Revolution; 1850's by Civil War; 1920's Great Depression/WW2.

Each time the country was profoundly changed and the change came with little prescience. Unforseen events changed the publics mood as if on a dime (Boston Tea Party, John Brown's Raid, Black Tuesday). The sacrifices involved to survive and prevail over each conflict required new social contracts as they were resolved.

"The next Fourth Turning is due to begin shortly after the new millenium, midway through the Oh-Oh decade. Around the year 2005, a sudden spark will catalize a Crisis mood. Remnants of he old social order will disintegrate. Political and economic trust will implode. Real hardship will beset the land, with severe distress that could involve questions of class, race, nation and empire. Yet this time of trouble will bring seeds of social rebirth... Sometime before the year 2025, America will pass through a great gate in history commensurate with the American Revolution, Civil War, and twin emergencies of The Great Depression and World War II."

3. Read it a few years ago, as well as their first book, "Generations: A History

of America's Future." I've been recommending both to any and all for years. A unique take on American history.

One of my thoughts (among many) when the attacks on the WTC happened, was "It's too early."
