One reason I prefer i-ching over tarot
I-ching seems very Chinese in that even the worst bad news is softened with hopeful possibility. You'll never see anything like a reversed tower (OMG PaNIC!!!1!)

I'm just sayin'

1. It's so true!
I've used Tarot as a portion of the readings I've been doing, and have ended up in almost every case, apologizing for them!

At least I know that when multiple "good" cards show up, that something REALLY GOOD is on the way...argh, what a deck.

I use the Young-Sowers Angelic Messenger deck for "all positive" readings as well. No panic when you use those!

2. I don't understand why different decks have different meanings.
Can you tell me?

3. It's entirely the choice of the deck designer.
What messages would you like to have come through, in other words. Divination lines them up when you ask.

4. depends on how you read, honestly.
i was trained that one can also read reversed cards as suppressed potential of an upright card. and further, the tower, though bad, depends on placement and relation to other cards. it could be that a "castle of sand" that is more of a problematic illusion of security/power is slipping away -- and depending upon whom, it could be a real benefit.

also, if you read more of the trans-literative versions of I Ching, you can find the Chinese to sound incredibly accusatory and direct. its more of an issue of how Chinese doesn't use articles and prepositions at the same syntactical level English does. but it does make for a curious first glance. after a while it makes more sense that things are to be reshuffled according to how it makes sense to the reader, but some of those first impressions can be shocking! :)

5. I wanted to add a note for the creative types in the forum...
...Brian Eno created his own deck of cards, for use when creatively stuck. They're called the Oblique Strategies, and contain interesting ideas...

7. I know nothing about I-ching but have always been intrigued.
I guess I'll need to check it out.
