"Prayer of St. Francis" by Sarah MacLachlan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=ES&hl=es&v=0VSyuar6oF8

Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

Namaste.

4. Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Gorgeous.
Those words I've never heard sung before. McLachlan sings it as if St. Francis himself wrote the melody.

St. Francis is perhaps my favorite saint. I'm almost positive that it was he, before his conversion when he was still a youth loving to drink and just having a great time, his rich dad tried to instill the importance of God and spirit, and to change his debauch ways. Francis said something like, Yeah, I know but not right now :rofl:

5. I feel the same way about St. Francis, Blue.
The words themselves are almost enough to make me weep. Add this music to it, and my heart overflows...

6. I want to reassert that this is the way I choose to live my life.
May others understand that some of my decisions with which they might disagree have been based on the principles in this prayer. Nobody is my enemy. May love always prevail.

Namaste.

7. We played this at my brother's funeral
Many of the mourners came up to me later and asked me about the prayer, telling me how beautiful it was. That made me so happy to know others had been touched.

The Southern Baptist minister was very accomodating to my wishes, and for that I have thanked him many times. I may not agree with his theology, but he didn't try to cram it down my throat, and was open to my suggestions. I must say, he wasn't the type of fundie I was used to dealing with, and he changed my perception (that they were all a bunch of brainwashed crazy people). For that I thank him as well.

8. This minister sounds as though he has a lot of integrity.
I'm so glad that he didn't cause you additional hardship during such a difficult time for you, Kookaburra. I can imagine the relief that you must have felt. :hug:

9. He's a man of faith
He believes completely in what he believes, and I respect him for it. I like him, and really enjoy having discussions not only about how we differ, but also about how we match up in so many areas (he knows I'm Unitarian, and he has never tried to convert me). We run into each other quite often, because we live in a relatively close-knit community within a big city, so it's nice that I don't have to try and hide every time I see him (as I do with the other fundie preacher who likes to tell me that I'm going to hell on a regular basis).

12. I'm sure that there's a real difference in energy...
between the two of them. I'm glad that you were able to befriend the one who accepts you for who you are. :)

I needed that. Thank you for posting.

I must add - St. Francis of Assissi is hands down my favorite Saint.
