I'm still fairly new on DU as an active member, although I was a long-time lurker before that (actually, since early 2003).

Several years ago, my sister prepared my personal horoscope as a birthday present, and now I know that I'm cancer with scorpio as an ascendant, among many other details. My Chinese zodiac sign is the dragon.

My sister is a very spiritual, artistic and sensitive person while I am more the sturdy female variety as a jet engine mechanic.

And here is where this all really starts. I usually don't read horoscopes, but a few days ago a fairly lengthy one caught my eye. And I simply cannot believe it and feel the need to keep pinching myself: For the very first time in my life, these things are literally coming true. It talked of kindness coming from strangers, meeting people I had lost sight of long ago who might be barely recognizable. I really didn't pay much attention at the time.

And then, as an example: I was waiting for the bus this afternoon in the freezing drizzle, when a taxi pulled up next to me, the driver rolled down the window, called out to me and gave me a ride home FOR FREE. He said he remembered me for having been his passenger on my way to my mother's house (who has been paralyzed for 27 years). Saw me standing there and decided to give me a lift. I was recently diagnosed with RA and have been in quite a bit of pain for a couple of months. Experiencing this kindness brought tears to my eyes and the desire to pass some of this kindness on to others.

Then, at the grocery store, there was an elderly man I had often talked to, but had not seen in at least five years, and whom I presumed to have died. There he was in the same aisle. The person who was barely recognizable.... I started getting goosebumps.

These are only two examples among several things that have happened within little more than 24 hours.

My usually matter-of-fact way of looking at the world is well, "warping". Can any of you help me with an explanation? What is happening?

I am truly puzzled. Not scared or worried, but actually delighted and thrilled.

On edit, and to explain a bit:

My dad died of cancer five years ago and not a day passes that I don' think of him. I can't even say that I *miss* him because I never feel that he is very far away. Last year, my husband's right leg was amputated, and my mom finally became bedridden. My sister is able to take care of Mom, but only because she is unemployed (and needs me to help out). So there is quite a bit going on at the moment with my own RA, job, family needs and such. And you will not believe how the cab driver's act of kindness simply lifted my spirits. Bless him.

1. you are experiencing a shift
A lot of us have been through this. People don't so much slowly evolve, as become transformed, or, rather, their world view becomes transformed by an event, or a series of events. It isn't so much that astrology columns that you read are dead on, but that you were attracted to read this particular one. Kind of makes your mind swim, doesn't it?

Several years ago I had a number of strange things happen to me that made me pay attention. It seems like every week repeated things would happen. Over just a few week period I kept finding money places. Some I was able to keep, and some I found the owner. Once I found someone's driver's license. It culminated when I took a friend to lunch for her birthday, and I found the exact amount I needed for lunch on the sidewalk outside the restaurant. I finally figured out that something was strange was going on, and I started paying attention.

I would say pay attention to your dreams, and possibly keep a dream journal. You might find some more surprising and delightful things happening. Just keep smiling and enjoy evolving.

And yes, bless that cab driver!

I think it is difficult for a person who has never viewed herself as being "spiritual" to accept that there are things at work outside of the left-brained world.

What I found odd was that - about four years ago - I longed to learn about tarot. Me! Old stick-in-the-mud me! And this happened only a few months after my dad's death. The person I spoke with insisted that I had strong spiritual leanings, which I dismissed at that time, partly due to my being raised in this particular family, and in this particular sibling constellation, but also because the memories of my dad's illness and the slow process of his dying were still so fresh and painful. I loved my dad with all my heart.

Could it be that only now am I beginning to find the peace of mind to enter a new phase of life?

Tango-Tee, perhaps just now your consciousness is awake enough to really "see" these things and to begin to integrate it. What a wonderful time for you as you are just stepping onto the path. I like to say that what is seen cannot be unseen so now that the wonders of the Universe have come into your view and your conscious mind takes note of it, things will definitely begin to shift even more.

I'm excited for you! :-) This is a fabulous group of individuals with so many gifts and a huge heart. I'm happy to be among friends here. I welcome you fully into the fold and glad you came out of lurkdom!

15. Thank your for the kind welcome!
It is so amazing how we stumble, seemingly by accident, onto that which we need in our lives.

I'm happy to be here in this group. For the short time I've been active on DU, I chiefly jumped into the fray in GD, but also spent time on GLBT, Cooking and Baking, Seniors, and the Health forums. Especially in GD, a person has to grow a thick skin quickly.

Celebration mentioned keeping a dream journal. And at the moment my dreams really are vivid both in content and rich in color. And the language changes, depending on what I dream about. Some are in German, my native language, some in English. And there is always a man present who means well, who actually seems to care deeply. Dad?

The cab driver story brought a tear to my eyes. I know exactly what you mean on most all of your post. Hope hubby is doing well.

The last five years have been my toughest also, with a couple exceptions.

Life is just so amazing, even when gets so stinking tough. :wow:

Welcome to DU, tango-tee!

You mentioned that the last five years have been rough for you. Are you doing okay? If you would like to share, I will be happy to listen.

about how your Dad never seems far away.

Thank you for sharing your story - I'm glad you found your way over here. Not knowing what age group you fall into, perhaps you are simply now at a time in your life that you can begin to see the interconnectedness of all things.

I'm so glad to hear of your blessings - may they continue and may you find your health challenges easy to bear.

Again, welcome to this wonderful corner of DU.

7. And that's another thing, Delphinus...
I never knew this corner of DU existed, until I looked around a little in the various forums and groups. And there it was. Things do happen for a reason.

Oh, about the age group: I'm 57 years old.

Thank you so very much for the kind welcome. Reading the various posts, there is so much kindness in this group. I think I found a home.

Many hugs to you.

and bless you, tango-tee.

I'm so glad he gifted you with an act of kindness, and that you were in a place to receive it and appreciate it.

Full circle.

It doesn't get much better than that.

I hope that the acts of kindness and everyday miracles happen more and more often for you, to help ease the burden you're carrying so valiantly. It's not easy walking the path you're on right now.

Thank you for coming here to share, and for gifting me with the chance to send hugs through the ethers.

10. Welcome, Tango-tee!
:toast:

I'm up to my eyeballs in work and helping the kid with schoolwork and Cub Scout stuff, so I haven't been in the ASAH group much the past few days, but when I dropped in for a second and saw your post, I felt compelled to respond.

Yes, yes, yes, is the short answer! :D This is truly an incredible time, and amazing things are happening at a rapid pace. Lately we've all been experiencing "the quickening" first hand, and it's stunning.

I know what you mean about horoscopes; From my experience, although newspaper horoscopes are too vague and generalized to attempt to speak to all people in any given sign, when something "big" is going on in my life, suddenly the horoscope is in alignment with those particular events, as if it were speaking just to me. It's only happened to me once or twice in my life, but when it happens, it's very powerful and really gets you to sit up and take notice!

I also understand completely about your father. My dad passed seven years ago (wow I can't believe it's been that long) after a year with stomach cancer, and while I loved him very much, I wasn't that upset when he passed--and not just because it ended his suffering--and I only miss him on rare occasions. What you say is correct--that our loved ones are never very far away, and if we open up our minds and hearts we can feel them with us and even hear them when they wish to communicate with us. However, when my dad left, he LEFT--no lingering, no checking in on the family members, nothing! He had a tough life, and I long suspected that he was paying off a great deal of karma in this lifetime, and he was grateful that he was finally done with his task! :) However, when my son was born later the same year, mere moments after his birth my ultra-religious aunt lamented, "If only your father were here..." and I said with the utmost confidence, "He is." ;)

Anyway, I agree with the other esteemed ASAHers' responses on this thread--you are undergoing a transformation. Go with it, and definitely keep a written record of the synchronicities you've been experiencing. I've noticed that when a lot of them stack up in a short period of time, it's easy to lose track of them and forget some.

Be well, Tango-tee; it's an exciting time!

It is exactly like you said in your post: You sit up and take notice, because you can sense that something powerful is going on. I am trying to be mindful of what is happening, following the advice of the members of ASAH. It is almost like a tingling sensation, and - you won't believe it - I am feeling it right now!

Wishing you great joy with your children! My granddaughter is in Texas with my son and daughter-in-law - who is the best, sweetest and kindest daughter anyone could wish for.

18. Indeed, it is amazing.
I simply couldn't believe it. And the kindness of the cab driver.... it usually takes me about an hour to get home via two buses and the subway, plus the walk from the station. There he was, and I was at my front door in 15 minutes. When I told my husband about it, I could tell his eyes were misting over. And hubby is one tough old guy we're talking about here.

Experiencing this, I feel the need to be mindful of my fellow man, to pass on a little kindness of my own. The world is so harsh and cruel to some many people.

Blessings to you and yours.

13. perceiving the world differently
I have a student who is writing a research paper on how other cultures deal with the "unseen world." The invisible world, if you will. I got the idea for this as a paper and then "coincidentally" my student expressed an interest in writing something along this line, so I suggested it as a topic.

Do you know there are cultures where it is just assumed that departed loved ones are still around? And that there is an "unseen world" of which they have some understanding of and in which they participate?

Act like that in this culture and you're termed a nut case. In fact that is one reason we have our forum here at DU. Everytime we tried to discuss such issues in other forums, we would have some de-humanist-type post about science and proof and of course my all-time favorite, "hard" evidence.

Evidence just has to be "hard," you know.

Oh and they would want to argue, where we just wanted to talk about the wonders of existence.

Our pitiful culture, which is promoted to us as being so "advanced," is in reality dehumanizing. It leaves us ignorant of the true nature of the world and what is important. Fortunately you seeing the wonder of our existence and you walked into it just as surely as you would walk from one room to the next.

Also, wanted to add that I really liked what Celebration said upthread.

19. Hi, NJCher!
It's so great to read a post from you! I'm familiar with your posts, but noticed that you haven't been as prolific lately.

Many years ago, as one of my electives, I took a course on the Hmong culture. That was when I lived in Minnesota, which has quite a large Hmong population. I found it fascinating how ancestors were considered to be "there" with the living, always present and a part of everyday life.

And now, as I think about my dad, despite his death he is here with me. When something goes especially well, let's say at work, I "see" him in front of me and feel him ruffling my hair, as he looks at me with this particular look on his face and says: "Well done".

Back in Minnesota, my then-SO's cousin became my best friend. Introduction, half an hour of chatting, best friends for life. Although we haven't seen each other for 16 years now, we're still best friends and share the ups and downs we both face. She has bipolar disorder and has fought quite a few battles, but she is also a sensitive woman with so many gifts, a wonderful artist. It was through her that I first became interested in what is not tangible, in that for which there is no "hard evidence", as you said. Then I returned to Europe and these first tender shoots dried up in the necessity of building a new life.

There is so much beauty in "hard" sciences, especially astrophysics. Photos of new stars being born, of old stars dying, many millions of years ago, and their light just now reaching us. Contemplating this... Can we help *but* wonder? There is so much to have a childlike sense of wonder and appreciation for. And not to forget the beauty of Mandelbrot fractals!

Thanks...

I could go on, but would only become ever more incoherent. Forgive my ramblings, especially since English is not my native language.

O8)

When I don't respond right away, it's because I'm six hours ahead of EST. When the majority of people have time to visit DU, perhaps once work is finished and the kids are in bed, it is in the middle of the night here.

So I'm not being impolite, it's really due to the different time zones.

I look forward so very much to being part of this lovely group.
