Prayers and thoughts, please.....
.....I was walking my dogs this evening and a pit bull (visiting the neighborhood, I think....never seen it before) jumped a fence and attacked my little beagle-boy Fred. His thigh has been torn up pretty bad, and he'll be going into surgery pretty soon to assess the extent of the damage. Poor little guy has just come out of a summer/fall of EXTENSIVE skin allergies and infections, and now this. If I could figure out how to post a picture, your hearts would break from the cuteness. Anyway, any spare energy you can send our way is much appreciated.

3. Have my sister doing long-distance Reiki too
Fred actually bit ME during the fracas, so thanks for including me. I will probably try to get a tetanus shot tomorrow (Fred likes to snack on his own....um.....well, POO, so who knows what's gotten inside of me!)

9. I'm sorry. The best to both of you. Oddly, almost the same thing
happened to my little Corgi last night. I took her out to relieve herself before bed time, in our own back yard, and a giant dog jumped over the stockade fence and ran over and tried to attack her. The little thing held her own. A stockade fence, as I'm sure you know is fairly tall. The dog sailed over it. Scared me senseless. The owner's dog (visiting the neighbors whose backyard abuts up to mine) also jumped the fence (somehow) and grabbed his dog. My dog was not injured, thankfully. She was understandably shaken, as was I. I'm sorry your dog was hurt. I hope she does well.

Good to hear
I also had my little corgi mix with me when Fred was attacked....I wasn't worried about her as she could probably fend off ten pit bulls single-handedly!

14. This little dog is a gentle soul. I rescued her from a deplorable
Edited on Sun Feb-14-10 11:47 AM by Tess49
situation, and she has never so much as raised her voice at me. I think she appreciates sleeping under my bed instead of under the neighbor's porch in all kinds of weather. That said, the female Corgi, from what I've read, can be rather aggressive if called upon. More so than the male. They are very territorial as well. We've been on a couple of walks where she has lunged at someone she perceived to be a threat to me. She may well have had the big dog that jumped her fence for a midnight snack! Glad to hear your little dog is doing well.

Thanks to whoever gave me a valentine!

15. something must be affecting the doggies
Mine went through the moose trail in the woods to the next-door neighbors on Tuesday...I haven't slept well since. They came home a short time later -- I was keeping an eye out for them after they took off into the woods -- but within 15-20 minutes Jake was back and napping by my pasture shed in the sun, so I knew Luna was nearby.

My dogs get along with their dogs, who snuck over to my place several times early last autumn, but apparently it upset the owner to have 4 dogs "running around the yard like crazy." I only found out about their mishap about 10 minutes after they returned when the neighbor came storming up my driveway.

It's too bad. I've had visits from their dogs, not to mention 2 cows a their bull years ago, but never made a big deal of it. But the neighbor, by her reaction to Jake and Luna trying to lick her hands, was clearly afraid of dogs and her big labs show people fear-aggression so I'm afraid they've been abused or at least trained harshly.

I'm also thinking, based on a number of things in the neighborhood, that maybe we got a new animal control officer last fall. Several neighbors who either used to let their dogs run in their yards, or had them on tie-outs in their front yards, started keeping them in or hidden behind their houses all around the same time. That would also explain the craziness of my horse-acquintance under arrest right now...

18. Oh how awful! My prayers and energy for your little guy.
Did you call animal control? That other dog needs to be caught before he mauls any other pets or even children. If he has owners, they should be charged with whatever leash laws you have that would cover it.

25. UPDATE.....
.....Fred is headed to our regular vet this afternoon to have things checked out. My partner's secretary just brought me some lunch, and the little devil (Fred, not the secretary!) came to greet her without even limping - then went out the dog door on his own and checked out the yard for awhile. Continuing thanks for your well-wishes. I'm consistently and pleasantly surprised by the generosity and helpfulness of this forum!
