Principal of Homeopathy found in works of Hippocrates....
Was just in the science forum in a *discussion* about the value of homeopathy there were a few who wanted to discuss it and share their experiences so I thought I'd present an opportunity to do that here where more are open to it. I know we have quite a few folks here who are quite knowledgeable and we've had numerous discusssions on the topic already...but what the hey...maybe there are some new folks who want to chime in ;)

I find the use on animals fascinating.....and have used Flower Essences myself for family- 2leggeds &4leggeds.

Please feel free to discuss....:)

Like cures like.....

"Homeopathy uses principles that are inherent in all natural healing and are as basic as the laws of gravity. Its foundation principle is, Like Cures Like - Similia Similibus Curentur. Cure occurs when the sick person is given that substance which can cause the symptoms of their sickness in a healthy person. This principle has been found in the works of Hippocrates, father of modern medicine, and throughout the history of herbal medicine. However it was not until the 1700s that the prodigal German physician, Samuel Christian Hahnemann elucidated this medical science, which has continued to evolve to this day.
<snip>

Maybe its this part below, that the more science minded have a problem with. If one does not agree that there is more levels than just the physical, then it would seem nesxt to impossible to have any useful discussion about it.

"The Similimum has the power to stimulate the entire organism to heal itself. It sets up a curative response that works on many levels - energetic, physical, mental-emotional, and spiritual, enabling a resolution of even some of the most difficult illnesses. Homeopathy, therefore, has a wide field of applicability and can be used to treat most disorders, be they physical, psychosomatic, or psychological in nature.

1. A parallel example of "like cures like"
can be found in one way that human relationships work. When you are around someone who has your same faults, it reminds you of how you don't like those traits and you "mobilize" to change. This can, for example, happen when, as an adult, one is with one's mother and sees a mirror of certain character flaws. The Waldorf Schools use this concept by putting children of the same temperament together, thereby causing them to begin to manifest more of the opposite temperament as a balance.

2. What a fascinating analogy!
I so enjoy observing human energy. I cannot see auras but, it is truly amazing to watch the way someone with negative energy can effect the party!

I have learned how to monitor my own energy fields somewhat, and have noticed rapid and very significant changes in my own fields after taking homeopathic remedies for various things.

3. That is a great analogy....
I find it very crucial to be aware of my energy...especially when I am creating and making art that I will send out in the world. I'd feel awful to send something out with soething negartive attached, so I am careful and aware of what state I am in before I head out to the studio.:)

I find that like begets like in just about everything anymore.

Which is so sad that we have the strutting little rooster for a so called prez ....look at what has happened in this world since he has been elevated to a *leader*.

wish we could dunk him in a giant vat of Rescue Remedy or the proper flower essences. OOOH...can you imagine what he'd turn THAT into? :scared:

Nancy that is a great point about the kids in Waldorf school.

4. What's a good home reference book?
For homeopathy in particular, I mean?

We have a copy of Linda Page's Healthy Healing, but it's not the most recent edition, and I don't like using it much because I find the layout and design distracting. As well, she mostly recommends specific brands and combinations, and I'm not going to mail-order for a bottle of herbs when I can get herbs or tinctures from my market down the street. That said, it's mostly herbs and nutritional supplements that she recommends, and I'd like a better homeopathic resource for our home.

I use arnica a lot, and when I was flying a lot I would treat my motion sickness with homeopathy.

I'm wondering what homeopathic remedy could be good for muscular fatigue. My body has felt really worn down this week, and I can't figure out why. I'm eating well, I'm walking a little bit most days, I'm taking my prenatal vitamins, and I think I'm getting enough iron. I think it's possible that I have a low-grade sinus infection - perhaps I should try to treat that.

11. The Book that has served my family very well since 1991
is "The Family Guide to Homeopathy - Symptoms and Natural Solutions" by Andrew Lockie.

I have looked at more recent books at the bookstores but have found nothing which appeals to me more than this book.
I believe that I have scoured every page in this book more than once -also because I find it so fascinating!

My Homeopath remarks how much knowledge I have of some problems and Homeopathic remedies - and what I have is all from this book. :-)
And my years of expereince too, of course.

13. hey thanks DemEx
I will see about getting a copy. What I have are mostly bits & pieces and it would be very helpful to have it all in one book.

I have more info on Flower Essences...Bach, FES and Perelandra. There are also quite a few good local (SW ) brands too. I really love the gentle way they work. :)

5. Test the Simulinum theory with a cooking burn
If you ever burn your finger or hand while cooking, don't do the conventional thing: applying cool water. Instead, place your burnt finger NEAR the heat source for about 5 seconds; go only to the point where you can barely feel the heat in the area of the burn. Do this three times. The heat, in a much smaller degree than the heat that caused the burn, will actually reduce or eliminate the pain of the burn almost immediately. And, I find burns treated this way don't leave a scar.

I've been using homeopathy with my family for 20 years now. I suppose I always wondered if it was a coincidence until my first child was born. She had a persistently blocked tear duct, and the pediatrician wanted to do something gruesome to her beautiful face. I went home, swallowed pulsatilla, nursed, and two hours later the lump and the infected materials were gone--and never returned. I became a believer that day.

Similarly, my son suffered from repeated strep infections since birth. One year, he had a series of them continuously for 6 months. Finally driven to despair, I worked with a homeopath who had just concluded a trial in which he administered a nosode (a significantly reduced quantity of the actual strep bacteria) combined with a homeopathic rememdy. He's not had an instance of strep since--about 7 years now.

Hey, the stuff works!

12. I love this healing method too, DR.....
It has worked too well for so many big and little health issues for me and my family, as well as my dogs and birds, that it would be 'unwise' for us to ignore its value and power.

Years of experience proves its worth, also to my skeptic husband, and I love it because it is so subtle, gentle yet so powerful, working through on so many layers of our lives.

I have medically trained Homeopathic practitioners - my MD as well as a retired Veterinarian who has specialized now in Acupuncture and Homeopathy for small household pets.

And I do not hestitate to use the Big Guns of conventional medicine when necessary. These doctors that I have found are educated and trained to know when to do this too so I feel very fortunate having an eye on both when looking at health issues. My GP is retiring this year, :-( so I have to look around to find a good replacement - another doctor educated in Homeopathy.
