I'm new (sorta) also wall street reports best year EVER??
Hi everyone! I say I'm "new sorta" because I've been reading the posts from this group for a few years now. I feel like I know you all! I'm excited to finally be a "participating" member.

There was a report on nbc nightly news by Brian Williams one evening last week about wall street. It was said that wall street is reporting the best year they've ever had, in their HISTORY! RECORD PROFITS for the best year EVER. My hubby and I just looked at each other, with our mouths hanging open. What we heard was completely unbelievable to our ears!! Brian Williams mentioned it, and then moved on to some other mundane topic. It's like he didn't even here what he just said.

Since that night, I have looked everywhere to find the outraged public response to that report that I new HAD to exist, and have found nothing. I just cannot believe that with our economy still in shambles, banks raising interest rates on charge cards and still not loaning money, foreclosures nowhere near slowing down, even though they got bailed out by US, that basically there have been no new laws or regulations put in place to halt the practices of wall street, which got us into the mess in the first place!!?!?? Why is this story not getting any coverage? Why are we not outraged? At the very least, why isn't anyone, anywhere (tv, news, online groups) discussing it?

It seems that more and more it's becoming clear that we really are living in multi-dimensional realities.

Any thoughts?

1. Welcome, finderskeep!

:hi:

I know there were at least several threads discussing this in the General Discussion forum here at DU.

I'll try to find a few of those threads for you and post later, but that is the type of thing discussion here frequently at DU -- the complete disconnect from what many experience in their daily lives versus what the media, politicians, etc. say.

:)

2. Missed news story on wall street's biggest profits EVER!
Thanks for the welcome Grassroot! I'm glad to know there were some threads on this topic somewhere that I missed. I was beginning to think we finally did cross into the twilight zone! Still it's odd that we aren't hearing more about it from the mainstream news outlets. I told my husband yesterday that I have a sneaking suspicion the reason the healthcare debate is being bottle-necked by the republicans is to keep that the main choice of topic in the forefront, in everyone's minds, so that a little snippet about how wall street just had the biggest year ever, in all of time, would go right over the masses heads.

3. Unfortunately, not so surprising...

We've even been discussing here at ASAH recently (see http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=245x107493) the influence of mainstream corporate media.

They're part of Wall Street, so they use distraction (baffle us with BS) to keep the masses from the truth, imo. :)

You'll read a lot about it online, however.

:hi:

4. there is outrage overload

I don't get the tea baggers at all. Why aren't they upset about their credit card rates being virtually usury?

They really must be like sheep. They are whipped up by the radio talk show crowd, but on things like the public option rather than skyrocketing credit card and bank charges. And, which hits close to home?

Edited to add: WELCOME!!

don't qualify for credit cards and resent anybody who does. So they probably think people who have credit cards deserve usury rates because they're just transplant snobs anyway...

The non-freepers (as in moi) are way past outrage and fighting despair. 7 horses just died from starvation around the corner from me. The county has the survivors in custody and is asking for donations to care for them. And I just read on GD about a woman in Ohio who was on 60 minutes. Has lost everything and now is facing killing her horses so they won't starve to death.
