My cat keeps sneezing a lot
I think my cat may have this.

He is a 6 year old male indoor only cat. Since December he's been having sneezing fits. He sneezes about a dozen times in secession several times a day. I though Maye it was the harsh winter but now it's the middle of spring and he's still doing it. He is in very good health, no fluidic discharges, other than an occasional mild wet nose, eats the same, still happy & playful, has a good weight and clean fur, & regularly used the litter box. Occasionally he has urinary tract problems but I control that with cat food designed for it.

I have no $ for a vet trip, and the two times he's been there in the past they can't find anything wrong with him. Is there any kind of over the counter home remedy to help with his sneezing?

1. Just out of curiosity . . .
how dry is the air in your home? I wonder if it's because the air is too dry or dusty? A humidifier or air purifier might help if that's the case.

2. Any change in your home..

new carpet, new litter, new cat food, new laundry soap etc in that period? It sounds more like an allergy to me. With sneezing, the big problem is potential upper respiratory disease. But he doesn't have any other symptoms of this: usually there is congestion, cloudy discharge from the eyes etc.

You can try giving him benadryl, I believe.
There are a bunch of links on allergies on this website:

One may give you the dosage.

4. The general concensus on what I've found re dosage..
is:

"Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine used to treat allergies, insect stings, motion sickness, travel anxiety and other conditions. It is available as 25mg tablets (OTC) and 50mg capsules. The usual dose in dogs and cats is 0.5-2mg/pound by mouth every 8 to 12 hours. This medication should not be used in pregnant or nursing animals."

I'd first explore if some new product is in the house. If his nose isn't congested, and he is eating normally, it probably isnt a major thing. If the nose becomes congested, you can have an issue of him not eating, which is always bad.

5. you can give benadryl to cats?
I took him outside for a while and he thoroughly enjoyed that. He seems to be doing better after that. I've been in this home for about 1 1/2 years and no problems for the first year. It's neither too humid or dry and nothing new as far as food, litter, or carpet. I'll just keep monitoring his health. I just feel bad for him when he gets in his sneezing fits.

3. I hope he gets better but . . .
maybe he's allergic to humans, now that would be a switch.

6. one of our cats is also sneezing

and like yours there is no discharge and no sign of congestion

as the warmer weather has moved in, she's started shedding and the other night after a sneezing fit I "wiped" her nose and found a few hairs stuck to her nose -- she stopped sneezing until the next day

a few bits of shedding fur is the culprit -- they tickle her nose and trigger the sneezing fits

we are now in a "brushing mode" to get off all the shedding fur -- when we can get her to cooperate...
