pet first aid- super glue.

so, my boxer got a gash on her head. (long story) it wasn't TOO bad, and i couldn't take her to the vet at the moment. i cleaned it up well, but that was about all i could do, as nothing sticks to a dog. tried to shave around it, but that was the one thing that really upset her.
i know that emergency vets, especially, use a sterile super glue to close cuts and gashes. i didn't do that, but i did use it to glue down some butterflies. the wound closed up well, and is healing nicely.

i can think of a lot of other times when you just can't get a bandage to stick to a dog. i will let you know if we can get the stuff off!

1. Um, used to be a florist, used a lot of sharp knives.

Cuts were an occupational hazard and a major PITA. Brides don't like bloody wedding bouquets. I used to super glue my cuts together. Worked great, hurt, stung and burnt, like Hell.

2. You can just let it wear off

He'll produce oil, hair and new skin under it and eventually it'll just slough off. Then he'll eat it.

3. Used It For Bowling

Get a bad wear spot on the thumb and a little superglue gets you right back on the lanes. Works good and really keeps it from hurting.

4. When my dog cut his paw a couple months ago

the vet gave me the choice of gluing or stitching it together. I left it up to her and she chose gluing. Really hard to get the dog to leave it alone- for that I had to sedate him.

5. update

just thought i would report how it went-
for the first couple of days she did not bother it at all. clearly it hurt. as it scabbed over and surely started to itch she did start scratching at it a little. then she started really scratching, rubbing it against anything she could. she did tear a bit of scab off doing this. by then she had 2 of the 3 butterflies off. i put one new one on for good measure.
she did manage to scratch them all off by about day 6. but it did heal up beautifully with only a couple of bald spots.
