The Power of Feliway.... and Roast Chicken.
I am pretty well convinced that Feliway has really helped my multi-rescue-cat household in about the past 6 weeks.

Fabi, the feral kitty who reverted to her wild ways when her only ally - her mommy - died, has made a lot of progress. She is still hiding in the laundry room, but she is letting me bring her treats, PURRING when I bring them, and letting me pet her more than she has in many months. In addition, just this week I have seen her briefly outside of the laundry room several times. Tonight I made roast chicken, and she actually came to me in the kitchen and meowed at me to request (demand) some as a treat! OMG!!! Everyone got LOTS of chicken!!! She stayed out for several minutes, and when she finished, I tossed more to her.

In addition to the improvement in her behavior, the number of "incidents" among the other kitties has drastically reduced too. Typically I would hear at least once screeching "skirmish" a night. Now these were never major fights where someone gets injured, but I felt that it was contributing to Fabi's stress since it seemed she was more often the victim. Since Feliway, I have heard less than one cat fight per week.

I don't think Fabi will ever be a snuggle-bug, but that is not my concern. I just wanted her to be happier, and I am pretty sure that has already happened, and I hope she'll continue to improve.

4. I really was.... I hated seeing her seem so unhappy.
She is still a shy baby, but at least she is back to what is more normal for her, from before losing her momma. Maybe with patience she'll come around even more, I hope.

2. Good to hear a successful story. Roast chicken was my late kittie's
best treat. New kitty...well, she is fussy to say the least. Will eat NO people food and the story of finding something she will eat is too expensive to tell.

5. Mine love chicken, shrimp, and tuna. They don't care much for
beef, but will also go for ham lunch meat, on those rare occasions that I have it.

3. Chicken prepared any way, even boiled, has always been a favorite
It has magic properties among kitties. Glad it and Feliway worked for you.

6. You know, I must have made chicken 10 different ways in the past 2 months....
I have mostly used chicken breasts, thighs once, chicken soup, chicken friend rice, quesadillas, etc... and once I brought home a cooked chicken from Kroger, and none of that drew her out, but when I made a fresh whole chicken myself, she couldn't resist! LOL

7. interesting -- I wonder if it has to do with her feral background
my rescues and my own kitties have been accustomed to food cooked and cut up for them. But maybe she saw the BIG bird and thought, hmmm, now THAT's food!

8. I'm waiting for my Feliway diffusers to arrive in the mail...
I'm cheap.

When I found I could get TWO on Amazon (plus refills) for less than what my local Big Pet Store was charging for one, I figured it's worth a couple days wait.

Hope they help. The Oreo Ninja Clowder is becoming accustomed to the presence of little Shimrod...but they still don't really like him.

I keep telling them that baby brothers are FUN...
not only are they more durable than the birds, mice and bunnies that have constituted their 'entertainment' :yoiks:,
but they play BACK!:bounce:

9. Feliway is dramatic stuff when it works!
My cat was loose as a goose for her last pet visit when I gave the carrier a squirt. Her fight when I put her into it was half hearted and she was a peach the whole time we were there. She only sulked for about 20 minutes when we got home, instead of the half a day she usually manages when I take her to that nasty old vet.

10. Hope it helps with integration here...
I've been taking little Shimrod to work with me because (well mostly..) I'm not comfortable about leaving him alone with the older cats for so long without supervision.

I caught D'Artagnan treating him like a cross between a basketball and soccerball (dribble dribble dribble SWAT across the floor). D'Artagnan did have his claws sheathed, but he was NOT playing.

Wimsey and Riktor are tolerating him...Wimsey is even grudgingly playing with him- operative word is here 'grudging' though.

While I'm thoroughly enjoying this sweet baby kitten:loveya:, he DOES need to learn how to be a cat and I can't teach him that.

Sometimes I wish that the guys had a bit more "Uncle Cat" in their personalities...occasionally a neutered male cat will display an amazingly nurturing personality; 'mentoring' and raising young kittens.

My old alpha-cat Misha was like that...he was "Jedi Master" to I don't know how many young kittens (one of whom was Riktor).

11. dribble dribble dribble SWAT

This post is useless without video!!!

But seriously, I hope Feliway helps your situation. I feel sure enough that it has helped my situation, though knowing that it does not affect all a kitties the same, that if you order extra and want to sell unused portions to me, I will buy it. And I mean that.

BTW, I just talked to the shelter director today, and she said she actually did not have noticeable results herself when she tried it. However, my first career was in medical research, so I am by nature a skeptic, and if I had any doubt in what I have seen, I would not have shared it. I only shared what she said because it reiterates that results vary on an individual basis.

13. Here is some info....
I read online that if I had tried it before without success, to try it with more diffusers. Before, I only used one. This time, I set up two more. They also said to be patient, that it could take a month or more as the effects build up.

I ordered from this company for my second supply at good prices:
http://www.entirelypets.com/feldifref.html

I also saw Feliway on eBay but I have no patience for auctions.
