New Kid on deck!
This little fellow applied to join my household last Thursday night.

Friday morning his application was accepted when he passed his exams by coming up negative on his fe-leuk/FIV test and receiving his first distemper shot.
About six weeks old, and you can't see it in this shot, but he has six toes on his front feet.
Sweet, affectionate and intelligent little guy...he's already learning that 'the Hand is not a toy.'

I told him that he would not be named for either his color or his feet, so start thinking about who he was, and then let me know what he wished to be called.

So far he hasn't told me...but he will. They always do.

7. We (the kitten and I) have agreed on a name...
SHIMROD

It's the name of a wizard in Jack Vance's Lyonesse series.

I particularly liked this character..."wizard" did not mean "two-dimensional superhuman flinging spells randomly about the place."

He's probably just homing in on my voice, but he seems to be responding to the name already.

8. Wonderful baby!
I have an affinity for black cats! I once had a beloved black cat that was huge. He was incredibly affectionate. I am certain I will miss him for as long as I live.

Best wishes for you and your new baby!

9. Three of the cats...
...in the once-again 4-cat clowder are black.

Only reason there's a white cat is because one of the black cats brought him home and insisted that we adopt him.

That one is Wimsey...my Sainted Vet calls him the 'marker' in the herd.

I like black cats too...and they've caught so much shit throughout history.
They're still the least adopted and most abused and euthanized of all the colors.

I can't save them all...but I can make sure the ones that come my way have good, healthy, high-quality-of lives for as long as possible.

Sometimes I wish I could have more kitties, but four is about the limit of what I can handle financially...and what this particular group's social dynamic will tolerate.

Might have been different if I'd adopted an all-black litter right at the outset, but I wouldn't trade these guys for _____________
(fill in choice of things to trade for here). :loveya:

10. Black dog syndrome also
I've read online since we adopted our Layla that there is such a thing as "black dog syndrome" also, I guess that's the same as with the kitties, for some reason people avoid angels with black fur.

Obviously (my dog below) I don't get that either.

I would have a house full of furry beings if we could manage it, but I am so grateful for the one soft little love I can have.

12. ohhhhhh.
He looks just like my Dexter who I rescued at about that age. There was a litter of 3 black kittens in a parking lot next to a 4 lane road. I got them all and they all have homes now.

Dexter is enormous at about 16 lbs and he is not yet 2. I love black cats. A house is not a home unless it has a black cat in it. :loveya:
