we just adopted a pound puppy
We lost our wonderful Dog Weebles last month. Old age took her quickly, and I've just been so lonely without her. We were debating purchasing a pup (she was a chi-poo cross), but I had the urge to go to the pound today.

Most of the dogs there were pits or pit crosses, and as sweet as they were they wouldn't pass the size and weight requirements at our apartment complex.

But, there was a chihuahua there. Looking pretty scared, but trying to look tough. Not shaking, but his eyes were huge and you could tell he was stressed to the max.

We took him out of the cage, and he wrapped his paws around my arm while I carried him to the bonding room. And he hooked not only me, but DH as well. We were toast.

He rides well in the car, walks very well on a leash, is neutered, doesn't really bark at all, and lives to chase balls. Oh yeah, loves subway cold cuts.

I think we're going to have some food issues, but other than that he's a doll. He's finally passed out next to DH on the couch.

1. How wonderful for you and for the new puppy!
You are both very lucky, it seems. I am usually so sad to read posts here since so many of us lose our pets, so it is great to have good news. Best of luck.

3. Thank you Donna and your DH..
Adopting a "pound puppy" is one of the nicest things a person can do IMO.

5. he most definitely is a keeper -- he's already so bonded to all in the house
He got upset when DH went to work last night. Sat at the door for an hour, and then went utterly mad with joy when he walked in this morning.

10. Thank you for adopting !
What food issues are you having ? Is he guarding his food ? That's not unusual for a dog fresh out of the shelter. I think it takes about 2 weeks for them to settle in and show their true selves.
