Montie is dying
She's a 13 year old Airedale. She has been deaf for over a year and has slowed down over the last few years. She has had trouble getting up for the last few months. Saturday she was waiting for her dog biscuit with our other two dogs, excited as always. Later she must have had a heart situation, suddenly she started panting loudly and struggled to her feet and just faced the wall like she was confused. I think her lungs are filling up, her gums are a bit blue. I'm just spending this time letting her know she's loved. She's resting in a patch of sunshine right now and she seems comfortable but very tired. Montie has come to the end of the road.

I got her right after I went to a fund raiser Hillary Clinton was giving for the state congressional delegation. My husband was part of it and I didn't want to go and a pup was my reward. So dressed in my comfortable clothes and looking out of place, I meet the first lady, but I was only there for the pup. It was an honour to meet her and she gave a really good speech. Right afterwards we picked out Montie to be our pup. Someone suggested I call her Hillary, but I called her Montie. Anyway that is how she came to live with us.

She's enjoyed chasing rabbits, digging, getting in the way and barking at the wrong time when around cattle, porcupine hunting and fighting them for their quills... the usual mischief.

I'll give her another cuddle now. She's gone.

2. I feel so sad for you. When we lose family like this, the hurt lasts a long time.
May she have a good time in that special place where good doggies go. I'm sure you will have a special place for her in your heart forever.

11. Sorry your Montie has been feeling so badly.
Good that you were on hand to cuddle her at the end. Take good care of yourself, now, and give yourself all the time you need to grieve. She would be distressed to know that you are crying and try to divert your thoughts onto the happy times of chasing rabbits, barking, and licking away your tears. You were a good mom. I know you'll miss her forever, but weren't you lucky to know her so well while she was still alive.

I had an Airedale when I was young - they are beautiful, loyal friends. I understand your pain and hope time will ease your heartache.

18. So sorry.
I know how much you are missing her. We had our Airedale, Scooby, for 11 years. They are such characters, they really leave a big hole when they go. Sounds like you have wonderful memories of Montie.

19. Your girl had a wonderful life with you and it sounds like the
end of it is what she might have chosen--to be with her human companions, in a patch of sunshine. Blessings and peace to you and your family in this time of sorrow. May your memories bring you comfort.

21. Time and tears......So sorry that you have lost Montie.
And if I go, while you are still here... Know that I still live on, Vibrating to a different measure, Behind a thin veil that you cannot see through. You will not see me, so you must have faith. I will wait there for the time when we can soar together again, both aware of each other. Until then, live your life to the fullest. And when you need me, just whisper my name in your heart, ...I will be there.

22. So sorry
for the loss of your beloved Montie. My first dog, the one I grew up with, Tasha, was an airdale and the best dog I ever had.
