But the cat can walk right up and she will back out of his way and let the cat eat her food until he is either full or I shoo him away.

Now what is up with that?

Any ideas?

1. BigDog probably feels Cat outranks her in pack hierarchy...
...or the cat is a "buddy" and is accorded special priveleges.
Do they team up on mischief as well?

Cats are good at convincing humans as well as dogs that they are at the top of the social pyramid...
mostly because they know it to be true.

2. I had always suspected that the cat was running the show around here
And yes they do team up for mischief as well. The two of them play constantly.

3. Apparently your cat is the Pack Leader.
There are many reasons for food aggression in dogs. Do you have other dogs in the house? How is this one on walks? we have the same thing here although it is comical at times. 3out 4 cats love the food the Leo (long haired, miniature Dachshund). Leo is constantly chasing them away from his food.

Leo

Leo and Tyger(only male cat)

Leo and Patches(Patches is the baby at 7 yrs old)

Snowball and Smokey only tolerate Leo...lol.
