Junior is 21!!!!!!!!
Today is my cat Junior's 21st birthday. He's a tuxedo cat and the most awesome feline I've ever lived with. He was born next door (neighbors had me come over to see the kittens), but decided he didn't like the kids or dog there and began living with us when he was about 5 months old. Our neighbors weren't the best cat caretakers and didn't care if Junior lived with us or not.

I took him in for a checkup a few weeks ago and he passed with flying colors. Our vet said that she's never seen a cat as old as Junior in such good shape. He's still 15 pounds, and doesn't show a hint of arthritis or cataracts. She said that he seems like he should be about 10. She said that if she hadn't been seeing him for 16 years, she wouldn't believe he's this old. He and his "brothers and sister" (actually only 1 out of 7 of them is related) will be dining on fresh tuna and salmon tonight in celebration. (They eat better than my DH and me!) :)

Happy birthday, buddy and I hope we will celebrate many more!!!!!!!!!!! :toast:

1. Happy Birthday, dear Juniorrrr. Happy Birthday to youuuuu!
And many more. Good on you for taking such good care of him for so many years. He must be one happy cat. I had a persian who lived for about 20 years, maybe more. We got her at an animal shelter and were never sure about her age.

4. So where's the photo? No party hats, please. My cat is close. I
think he is about 20, but I don't know exactly, as he was a rescue, and then a lady gave him to me (she couldn't keep him). That was 1991. And she thought he was older than 1 or 2 at that time. So.
Where are you in MI. I was at Ann Arbor for a cold and rainy, and a little sunny while.

6. so to what do you attribute his great health?
What does he eat, for example? Is it simply a matter of good genes, or what, do you think?

Congrats on a healthy long-lived kitty. I had one who made it to 18, and one 17, but never 21!

8. Sorry so late in replying!
I think it's a combination of good genes and a great life. I usually keep all of my cats inside, but Junior would have none of that. He goes out every morning and comes in when I get home from work. He doesn't go out when it's cold, though. I feed him and the others Science Diet kibble (unrestricted), and canned Science Diet at night. He's not big on "people food", but does like an occasional piece of cheese. He DID enjoy the tuna and salmon, though!

Thanks,

Diane
