A beagle just adopted my husband.
Hubby was on the driveway and the dog just came up to him and licked his hand. Then kept following him. He's a nice dog and is in good shape.
We've never seen him in the neighborhood but we're trying to find his owner. Since we live at the junction of 3 suburbs we contacted the police. If we can't find the owner then we'll adopt him ourselves and name him Teddy since he came to us right after the burial at Arlington.

2. awww.
When I lived with a roommate who had a house built into the side of a hill, I was upstairs in my room one day and looked up to see a cocker puppy. He wasn't hungry, but I gave him some water and took him outside to potty. He had evidently come in the back door downstairs, past my roommate's door, walked up the spiral stairs, and found me. We stopped some neighbors who were walking, and they alerted us that our next door neighbors had been searching for their puppy. He did belong to them, but she yelled at him the whole time she was taking him home :( . I told roommate that if he ever came back, we were keeping him.

3. Update...
Owner showed up. She's and older woman that lives 4 blocks away. Our "Teddy's" real name is Ollie. He escaped from her yard by digging under the fence. He really loved my husband but has gone to his real home. Oh Well............

5. lots more at your local humane shelter.
And they'd love you just as much I'll bet. Adopting a new "Teddy" would be a great tribute to a great dog-loving Senator.

6. Beagles are roamers by nature.
We had one drop in here a few years ago. OD, we called him. Other Dog. I called the Humane Soc. and asked if anyone was looking for him. Turns out, there was. People a block away.

His real name was Oliver. Oliver Dog.

We had a Beagle when I was a kid and she was a roamer too. Braaaannnnddddyyyyyyyy.... Braaaaaaaaaaannnnddyyyyyy.... oh there you are. Sweet, not so bright. They are bred to flush game out of the weeds- roaming is just in their blood.

Our goldens when they ever escaped would just go to the back door and wag their tails in BLISS.

WE ARE OUT! IT IS SO GREAT! YOU COME OUT TOO! YAY!

sigh
missing them.

7. You can also look for Beagle Rescue groups ...
... in your area. Petfinder.com will let you search by zip code, gender, age, etc and find just the Beagle you're looking to adopt.

I am a Beagle foster and they are awesome little folks. :-)
