I was thinking about getting another cat
I got two Vinnie he's around 10 yrs old,Sparkle he's around 9 yrs old.Still playful and silly as ever. I have always wanted a totally white short haired cat,the pink nose ,pink paw pads and faint pink through the ears get to me, they are adorable..I live in Maryland, anyone know where I could find one? Younger the better, and please not two blue eyes my other cats might not get along with the new cat if it's deaf..

1. Try petfinder.com
and not all blue eyed white cats are deaf: http://www.gildethros.com/currentkittens.html

2. If you have two, you might as well have three.

3. My green-gold eyed white cat came to ME...
Wimsey (known then as "Blizzard") didn't like where he was living, (he wasn't being fed regularly, had worms, and the kids were pretty rough with him) so he took one of my cats' advice and upgraded.
It took some powerful convincing from MacFeegle (the advising cat) for me to allow this- even though I felt badly for him...

Fortunately (for Wimsey), MacFeegle was my Baby Kitty, as well as being a sweet-natured, fearless, loving guy and I have a hard enough time telling any of them "NO".

I had three cats already, and Wimsey sticks out like a (fill in single smallish white thing in a black background metaphor here).

I like BLACK cats and always choose them when adopting.
It amuses me to be attended by my clowder of black cats when I'm out doing stuff in the yard (and they've all grown up very handsome)...that, and black animals (both cats and dogs) are the least adopted, most abused and euthanised group.

Black cats have taken a lot of crap through history just because of a dominant color gene...
I kinda feel as though they're owed something.
I'm silly that way...

I never realized that about black colored cats and dogs.

6. think twice about a white cat
I have a white cat and she has skin cancer being she is all white. She's required 3 surgeries on lesions. Luckily no new ones for quite some time now.

She has one blue eye and one green eye, hence she is not deaf.

She will be 15 years old soon.

I think it is ok as long as the new white cat doesn't go outside.

Best of luck with whatever you decide and a Happy New Year to all of you!

:dem:

7. Eye color and coat color really don't determine deafness
it's just more common in all white cats with blue or bi-colored eyes, but just as many are hearing.

My tabby and white cat Jasper-who only lived outside because he freaked out indoors- had skin cancer on one of his white legs. He had two surgeries, then they removed the leg because neither surgery had an effect on the cancer. He was fine after that, but I recall the vet saying that all light colored dogs and cats-and any with light patches of fur-were more prone to skin cancer these days. Another good reason to keep them indoors!

9. Yikes!
Going to have to take Wimsey Whitecat in to the vet more often then...
he's a DSH, but his coat is VERY thick...might be some protection.
I brought him in last year at 18 months, just to establish a baseline for him.

He's not a 'frequent flyer'. I give them their yearly shots meself, and he seems to stay out of trouble better than some of the others...so he's seen the vet TWICE...once for neutering and one-year rabies shot, and once for the 3-year rabies booster.

I can't give them that one...it's a live virus. Honestly, I'd just as soon NOT be messing around with a live rabies virus...that one's nasty :scared:

8. The Washington Animal Rescue League has a few
http://www.warl.org/

It's in Northern DC, where I got my Esther. They still list a couple white cats as available, you should check them out.
