RIP, my dear Oreo
Edited on Sat May-03-08 10:21 AM by blondie58
I had my old tuxedo cat, Oreo put to sleep yesterday. Poor Ore's, as we called him has had many problems over the years with urinary tract infections. I feel so guilty, as I knew that he was getting another one and didn't take him to the vet promptly, as I quite frankly didn't have the money. When we got him in a day later, he was in pretty bad shape and possibly suffering from kidney failure already.

I guess that I should look at it that I saved him from a kill shelter when he was eight years old and gave him seven years of happiness. I could have spent $500 that I didn't have to prolong his life.

The vets office has a new thing though, which I found really neat- they make a clay cast of his pawprint for you to take home and bake as a momento, similar to those of a childs footprint.

He had seven years of happiness. Many cats don't have that.

4. Ay, Oreo!
Leave the guilt behind. Much of what we do for them with the vets only prolongs their suffering.

Tears will leave no stain.
Time will ease the pain.
For every life that fades,
Something beautiful remains.

18. You have no reason for guilt
You saved your friend's life, loved her, gave her a good life and eased her death.

There is nothing more you could have done.

You did good.

8. My deepest condolences to you...
don't beat yourself up over this. Most of us have been where you are and we all understand that you did the absolute best that you could under very trying circumstances. You gave him 7 more years than he would have had and that says something in itself. Just remember the good memories that you will always have of him - it is the only thing you can do. Much peace to you in the coming days and weeks.

10. So soory that you have lost Oreo...but you have done the best you can...
and you gave him 7 years of love and TLC. Sometimes prolonging a life is not the right thing to do when there is suffering involved.
No doubt you loved him, and he knew it.

19. You have no reason to feel guilty. We do what we can for them.

The rest is up to god, fate, or whatever other force you acknowledge. Just remember the good times and do what feels right to you to honor their memory.

When we lost our Rudy last month I promised to honor him by naming his replacement after him. Yesterday we brought home an eight week old mini schnauzer puppy named Rudy. And NO he will not replace the original in our hearts, but watching him play and familiarize himself with the two cats and Mazy - our 5 yr old female mini schnauzer - puts a smile in the heart that kind of soothes the pain of loss.

Don't know whether that would work for you, but it's helped us over the last 35 years thru the loss of both dogs and cats. Our home would be a lonely place without our animals.

of his sick body. Don't feel guilty about anything you did or didn't do. Oreo had a good life, esp. after he became your little buddy. His little spirit will be with you forever. He was a lucky cat.

I'm kind of partial to tuxedo kitties, too.

22. thank you all very much
her husband, Dirk has gone to live with my ex and Mackenzie and Dirks son, Holbrook. Dogs, I believe, do better with another dog and I wasn't ready for that. I actually have a few (too many) cats already.
