Increased cost of cat food is starting to hurt!
When I got home from the store I was thinking that possibly the pet food store had made a big mistake on the total charged me. This is what I found.
15 lbs Katz-n-Flocken increased from $25.99 to $29.99
16.5 lbs Innova Senior Cat Food Dry was $34.99 is now $40.99 ....no, will not buy this again.
16.5 lbs California Natural Chicken & Brown Rice Dry Cat was still $32.99 ... I think they goofed on this price and I should run back for 2 more bags.
15.4 lbs Innova EVO Dry Cat Food was $35.99 is now $39.99
16.5 lbs Eagle Pack Holistic Select Chicken Meal and Rice Feline was $26.99 is now $30.99
12.5 oz cans Wellness Cat Food was $1.69 is now $1.89 by the case.
14 oz cans PetGuard Natural Cat was $1.69 will no longer be available. Cost too much they said.
These prices have gone up in just the last two months. Miles traveled round trip to the animal feed store was 56 miles. Cost of gas is less outside the city, it was $3.749 yesterday in area zip code 60005.

Good God!, and then I went across the road to Wallmart and found Pillar Rock canned wild salmon for only $2.23 a can. I emptied their shelf and filled my cabinet. I can feed myself 1/3 of a can on bread for a dinner sandwich. The cats don't care much for my salmon sandwiches either of course because I suppose they know its cheaper than their food.

Time to get serious about going on that diet to loose excess weight?

1. Geez!
My science diet has not gone up, but the royal canin feline SO has nearly doubled. good thing the cat that eats the SO is tiny so a 5.5lb bag lasts almost two minths.

2. Put them to work and have them pay for their food!
What can ten cats do? You could harness them together and they could a cart to earn their keep! Mush!

3. still feeding Life's Abundance
Cost is ~$42.00 delivered to my front door for a 16.5 lb. bag. It feeds all of my cats (weights range from 8 lbs. - 20 lbs.) for 6 weeks. They are doing very well on it and their health has been great since I switched to this after the recalls last year.

I like the auto-ship. I don't have to worry about going to the store to buy more (not that they sell it at stores). I was feeding Innovo Evo for the longest time but now the cats seem to like Life's Abundance only so I won't be buying anymore of it either. The cost is very high as you mention and no front door delivery.

My 3 cats are worth spending $42.00 every six weeks on. That works out to $7.00 a week to feed all of them. :)

4. We are training kitty number two to eat some pea soup every second day or so.
I like that he is getting some variety. And we save a little on the rising cost of kibble.

The other kitty only likes kibble. Anything else is very suspicious and is ignored until it starts to smell bad.
Though once in a while he will have some of the red cat's milk.
