I am SUCH a well-trained kitty momma!
I just caught 3 moths on the porch and set them free inside for kitty hunting. I have been known to rescue mice from my cat's clutches (back when I used to have a fenced in porch she sunned on), and lizards too, but I don't feel guilty about sacrificing the occasional moth for the pure joy of watching 8 cats get to exercise their primal instincts!

Uh-oh! I think I just heard the lamp falling over! :hide:

1. You have moths?
Everything around here that the kitties could chase is dead or hibernating. They have resorted to chasing each other.

2. I am on the Texas Gulf Coast.
It is 71 right now, and humid. I have the AC on just to reduce the humidity. I hate hot winter days! We pretty much have bugs to chase all year long... just more of them in the summer.

3. This reminds me of a story
Years back I had an orange cat named Lucifer who loved to hunt. We had to snatch everything away from him when he was young. Well Lucifer grew older and calmer but one day he was sleeping on the couch and my brother came up with a bird that had accidently gotten into a basement window. I said, "Don't bring that bird up here, Luci is up here!" He said, "That old cat won't catch this bird away from me."

Well actually he did almost get the bird and was bounding around the room like a kitten after it. A 17 year old cat. My brother finally got the bird again and took it outside.

8. LOL
Nothing like the thrill of the hunt to put the kitten back into an ol' cat!

4. what a cute picture
I love having my kids eat their prey- no messy clean up, etc. My daughters cat, Max, caught a fly last fall. It was really funny because I think that he swallowed it whole. He was making the strangest faces, like something was flying around in his tummy. Now, what was that nursery rhyme?-

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.
I dunno why she swallowed that fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly -
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a bird;
How absurd, to swallow a bird!
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly -
Perhaps she'll die

There was an old lady who swallowed a cat.
Imagine that, she swallowed a cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
Perhaps she'll die

There was an old lady who swallowed a dog.
What a hog! To swallow a dog!
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat...
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a goat.
Just opened her throat and swallowed a goat!
She swallowed the goat to catch the dog ...
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a cow.
I don't know how she swallowed a cow!
She swallowed the cow to catch the goat... She swallowed the goat to catch the dog...

There was an old lady who swallowed a horse -
She's dead, of course.

15. that is really funny, too Lisa- and it reminds me of an incident that happened
to my oldest daughter and her boyfriend. They had vowed to start walking to get more exercise. At their ages, though (21) they tended to sleep all day and be awake at night.

But they set out one night and were freaked out by a loud noice that was getting closer to them. They were going to head towards home, but they caught a glimpse of 'the monster' in the streetlight. It was a skunk, who somehow had got its head caught in a can. Her boyfriend, Travis made the manly decision to try to get it off, while my daughter warned him that if he got sprayed, he could not come over to our house for a month. The first try didn't work, but the second try did. My daughter said that it was so funny, this skunk and Travis just looked at each other for a few seconds- I think they were both in shock- and then the skunk took off!

Poor little thing- it was sure to have been a death sentence as he couldn't eat or drink. I was so proud of Travis.

5. My boys are strictly indoor cats. Besides each other, dust bunnies and cat toys are the
only things they get to hunt on a regular basis. So, when the occasional moth shows up I just say "have at it boys" and let them hunt to their heart's content.

9. Yeah, I figure the occaisonal bug helps satisfy their
stalking and hunting urge! Of course by summertime, I fully expect them to earn their keep by catching my home invaders before I know they are their.... down this way, large, flying roaches start to come indoors looking for sources of water when the dog days of summer get here. Since I started fostering kitties 2 years ago, I have not seen ONE live one in the house! LOL

10. I used to have a bird feeder. I need to put one up again.
I used to call it "Kitty TV." Kitty loooooooved it. She would watch the birdies and her jaw would move and she'd make a clicking sound while her tail flicked excitedly. I got such a kick out of watching her watch them! There isn't a good place to hang one at this house, but I may have to find a way to do something about that.

11. Palmetto bugs
I hates 'em! But Oberon LIVES for those moments when I call him into a room to kill those horrid little beasties. The only really disgusting part is that he leaves what's left of them when he's done under the dining room table!

"Show me the BUGS"!!

13. Yeah, it's kinda gross
finding dead, dismembered bugs on the floor. But I'd rather find dead ones than live ones!!! :scared:

I have literally seen 2 of my kitties playing "pong" with a half dead palmetto bug before!LOL! It had just enough energy to try to scramble away, and as it would move a few inches, one cat would swat it toward the other, and then the other would return the favor. They sat there calmly playing this game, looking seriously contemplative about it, for several minutes before getting bored and walking away.
