My Yellow Tabby, the No Kill kitty. LOL
About a month and a half ago my yellow tabby caught a bird, his first. Thank god he didn't hurt it and it flew away.

Guess what Super Hunter just brought me? A baby bunny. I, like a moron, let him in the house. He drops the bunny, it hops away, he's prancing like the King he is, takes me 20 minutes to catch the bunny. Meanwhile the King is meowing for his treat.

God I love cats!!!

1. Be sure to give the Great Yellow Hunter
adequate praise. Baby bunnies are hard work.

2. couple of years ago the ex and I were sitting in the backyard...
...during the summer hummingbird storm-- there are so many zooming by that it feels unsafe to walk around without eye protection-- when Maxwell, an overweight siamese cat who is most decidedly NOT a hunter suddenly jumped higher than I'd ever imagined he could heave himself and came down with a hummer clutched in his mouth. He looked as shocked as we were. The ex started yelling at him to "Put that down!" but I praised him lavishly as he hurried of to enjoy his prize in peace. I figured he needed the affirmation....

3. He brought it in alive to teach you how to hunt
Mother cats do that all the time.

Lily my master huntress did this when she was young. She would sneak field mice into the house and hide them in the floor radiator. At night she would fetch them out and drop them on the bed and they would be running around on top of the bed. You can just imagine the thought of such a rude awakening.

She finally gave up and decided I was hopeless as a hunter.

4. LOL
This sounds like a good reason to adopt tom cats. Mu guess is that a tom cat would not have maternal instincts and try to teach its human how to hunt rodents.

One of my toms (neutered however) used to do this. He started when we had foster kittens, but continued it even after the kittens were gone. The worst were the chipmonks-- he'd bring them in alive and then release them. They'd promptly run under/behind furniture. It was pretty awful.

6. When I was a kid, a tomcat tried to teach me to hunt
He was a big hunter, too--caught a weasel once.
