Innoculated our dogs against rattlesnake venom

We live in rattlesnake country and had Big Red Dog and Little White Dog innoculated against rattlesnake bites. The vet raved about the innoculations, said a Rottweiler (sp?) bitten on the nose had just a bit of swelling and that was gone overnight. Anyone have experience with this?

Now if we could just find an innoculation against a coyote making off with Little White Dog, or a mountain lion zeroing in on either. Both are happier out here in the wide open spaces than they were in Atlanta, where outdoor life was chasing chipmonks in the back yard (never did catch one) and walks on cement sidewalks. But I sure worry about them more.

1. Years ago when I first came to LA and still worked on dogs

we used to see a lot of dogs from one area in the San Gabriel foothills where there were a lot of rattlesnakes. One dog in particular I treated for snakebite THREE times in two years. Each time the symptoms were milder. The last time he barely swelled. Sounds like the vaccine is a cheaper, safer way to desensitize than getting bitten, lol.
