New puppy

We've always had dogs, but my son has wanted one that was his
(the others are dedicated to either my wife or myself).

We've been looking in shelters for dogs he could get, that would
fit in, and young enough that he could bond with. Some of these
shelters have a lot of turnover, so you have to move quick.

We found Coco - a boxer/shepherd mix - very sweet and mellow - much
more than I would have thought - and cute as all hell. Even this
picture doesn't do him justice. Only 9 weeks old. His first night home.

Our local shelter is a no-kill shelter. They got him from a shelter in
Indiana, where they don't subsidize spaying/neutering, and they euthanize
any unclaimed animals. How could you euthanize this little guy?

1. My God, how sweet and cute he is
I'm glad you found him. (in the future, though you might want to look at ways of shrinking your photos. Places like Dogster and Catster do it automatically but your animal may not look so cute in the presentation.)

3. Adorable pup. Inexplicably, I am feeling defensive about the IN comment -
I am guessing you are in Wisconsin? The folks in IN who drive the "Puppy Train" 10 hours to Wisconsin every month feel pretty proud that they have found a will & a way to save the puppies. Because they go to Wisconsin as often as we can take them, we don't have puppies all the time in the shelter, and that means that older dogs are more likely to be adopted out. We also have a very active foster program and the number of animals killed is dropping.

You bet that *all* cities and towns should subsidize spaying/neutering and have no-kill shelters -- then again in the red states we are kinda busy trying to keep choice for women legal; keep the damn governor from selling off all of our public trust (roads, bridges, utilities), build 8-lane highways on top of vibrant rural communities, and allow the internet to be controlled by 1 company. Did I mention the fact that our US congressman probably stole the last election with the help of rigged voting machines?

I regard living in a red state as akin to being a missionary: I carry the words of hope and liberalism to all I encounter and do everything I can. The labrador retreiver sitting on my foot is a foster dog. Sorry for the defensiveness, but I swear we are trying.

Thank you for giving this pup a wonderful new home!! :loveya:

12. Really cute.
I am thinking about getting a partner for my chow/lab mix. She loves all other dog's and when I am not home she really needs a companion. Small apartment though, but maybe.

13. Thanks, although I found out this morning why he's so cute
His claws are razor-sharp - more so than any other puppy I've had (and we've had many), and he nearly ripped my lip in half this morning. He was just putting his paws up when I picked him up, but yow! I spent the morning with a paper towel to my lip to stop the bleeding.

This is why puppies and kids are so darned cute, because they'd never make it to adulthood otherwise.

14. Flashback, that adorable pup looks like my first dog
I ever had in 1964. Her name was Nosey, she was a beagle shepherd mix, but my parent split up so I had to give her away, I was devastated. Never had a dog since. Only cats. Best of luck with him, he's a real cutie!
