Weird Problem with Charley
Most of the time Charley is a really good cat. He's quiet, likes to play with Pad Thai and loves to eat. But lately he's been showing some behavior which is, well, gross.

He tries to hump my leg or my foot when I'm in bed! I try to push him off, but he just gets back on. I gently kick him off but he's back in a second. It is driving me crazy. Usually this is about 3 am when he does it.

I swear, some demon enters this cat from between 2 am - 5 am and then leaves. After that he's a perfectly normal cat. Oh, by the way, he was fixed.

1. Unusual Problem with Charley
I have had kitties for a very long time, and never experienced humping from any of them. Dogs, on the other had, are a totally different story!

Charley is such a cutie! :-)

5. Never experienced this, either, Demnan
maybe he was fixed at a later age than most?

From what you say about him, he is such a sweety that maybe this too shall pass?

6. I don't know if he'll get it over or not
But Pad Thai sure growls at him whenever he does it.

7. I'd keep a squirt bottle on the nightstand.
Then let him have it when he starts up.

8. And get my bed all wet!
the other cats are right there too. No can do. Actually I remembered we had a cat Shadow who had his special blankie. This cat lost its mother really young and used to nurse and attach to the blankie the same way Charley does to my leg. I think I'm going to give Charley a special blankie for his purposes.

10. To be honest
while I was fitfully sleeping last night I dreamed that Shadow, a cat I had the pleasure to love a long time ago, jumped on the bed in all his pretty greyness (he looked like a Russian blue - he was a wonderful cat too - sadly there are no digital pictures of my boy) - and I said in my dream, "hi Shadow, where have you been I haven't seen you for a while. Would you please tell Charley to use the blankie?

9. I have 4 cats with those 2am-5am demons.

It usually includes claws, biting and my feet. Of course Blacky likes to attack my hair - it's fairly long. He claws my head while doing it.

I can't stop the demons other than put them outside my bedroom door as they break the law each night.

What I do, do, to train them when they were biting me hard was one quick blow of air on their face from my mouth. It startles them and I say their name and "no" ie. Nilla NO! And they stop. I think you can train them that way. I would start doing that the Charlie immediately. Cats learn fast so if you're firm I'm sure you can tackle that problem.

Now for the toe hunters... an ideas? My cats think it's a big game. Okay, I haven't been firm there. Too tired.

11. humping cat
I had a foster cat who humped my leg. At first I couldn't figure out what it was doing (duh!) and then it dawned on me. To check out my hunch, I tried to lift up the cat to get a look. Sure enough, this cat had an erect penis while going at my leg. He didn't like my interrupting him like that. The shelter agreed to neuter him to see if that would stop the behavior. He was with me only a little while longer so I don't know whether it permanently took care of the problem.
My take on the situation: it was a display of dominance, aimed at the other cat. I think this foster cat was trying to tell my cats that he owned me and he was showing it to them by humping me.
Could Charley be trying to establish his position in the pecking order (no pun intended) by humping your leg?

12. Could be
It ain't easy being Number 3. I just push him off before he gets going though and he isn't that intense.

13. Too funny!
But irritating, I'm sure.

I used to have a cat that would hump, but not on my leg, thankfully. He had a thing for fleece blankets. (We called it his fetish.) The fuzzier the better. He'd bite into one, hang on and hump away. And he was neutered, too!

He was a very sweet cat in every other way.
