The THING in the Bag
Bought a toy tonight for my boys that advertised that "Cats can't resist".

Being a trusting soul, I bought the toy in the hopes of bringing joy and merriment to Jake and Spidey.

Got the thing home, and, I found out that my boys are a pair of wusses. Oh the shame!

Here is the toy. It is called "The Thing in the Bag", and, it has a battery-operated thingy inside that makes the bag vibrate and move slightly. Pretty cool, I thought.

Spidey and Jake apparently would not describe it as "cool". A better description, I think, is "terrifying":

Jake tried to get closer, but, this was as far as he got before the terror got the better of him:

Terror up close and personal:

This story will be continued....

1. Same exact reaction from my guys!
In fact, I had to return it because Oberon would no longer enter a room if he thought it was there, lol!

3. Actually I thought of a good use for it, Lorien

The boys have a habit of opening one of my cabinets that';s lost it's magnet that keeps it closed, despite my putting tape on it to keep it closed. The cabinet only has plastic bags, aluminum foil, etc. in it, so, mostly the cats just want the door open and they leave the boring stuff inside.

So, I am thinking that if I can figure out a way to have the THING go off inside the cabinet when the cabinet door opens, Spidey and Jake might think twice about wanting that particular cabinet door open!

4. That gave me a good laugh!
I have a cat that would be bold enough to check it out. They all went to the vet last week for rabies vaccinations. It wasn't their usual cat vet so there were dogs in the waiting room. I had my courageous boy Tubby (the one also recently diagnosed with kidney disease) on a leash and the other two in their own carriers. Tubby sat on the couch in the waiting room and wasn't bothered in the least by the huge rottweiler on a very long leash that was interested and came within a couple feet of the couch (he was cat-friendly). When we went to the exam room, I carried the carriers and just said, "Come on, Tubby" and he followed, leash dragging behind him.

Now the other two and that toy....

6. Your Tubby sounds much more like a dog
than a cat. I wish I could have seen him in the vet's office. Is Tubby any particular breed?

Whatever he is, I sure would like one like him!

How is Tubby doing, BTW?

8. he's like a dog in that way
and my little girl, Trouble, is like a dog because she likes to play fetch! Shelby, my other boy, he is just lazy except when he is attacking the others. He's even lazy doing that - he lays down in a high traffic area so he can grab the other two as they walk by. Shelby was a runt as a baby. I was shopping in a pet store for turtle food and the pet store was giving him away because he had hardly any hair, was too weak to play, and the last kitten they had to adopt. Now he's enormous and is currently on a diet.

Tubby is just a regular domestic shorthair. He's so outgoing but for years he was painfully shy. I was living with a boyfriend for 4 or 5 years that was at times abusive towards me but never towards my cats. When I left him, suddenly Tubby was outgoing and loved people. Within a couple days he was a different cat. He's doing okay health-wise but I wish he'd put on a pound or two. He's always been chunky so I don't like that he is underweight now even if it isn't by much. Thanks for asking!

:hi:

9. I am glad that Tubby is doing ok
wow...I am amazed at how he changed so dramatically after you left your ex-boyfriend. It sounds like he was fearful for you and for himself during the time he was living there.

Animals are so incredible. This story touched me, Qanisqineq.

17. LMAO! I had a similar situation...
I bought this mechanical mouse that was "motion activated," which I thought would keep my kitties busy while I wa sgone a couple days. It's plastic, and its green eyes light up, it moves on rollers, and it makes sound when touched. Thankfully it has an "off" switch, because it makes the most gawd-awful obnoxious noises! The cats are terrified of it!

When you touch it, it goes,

"Uh oh! Nanny nanny na na! Uh oh! ha ha ha ha ha ha!" and it is LOUD!!!

18. LOL
I wonder why they have it make such a strange noise? Doesn't sound appealing to a cat but otherwise it sounds like a good toy. I bought a remote control mouse for my cats. Only one cat will play with it, the other two run.

19. I got that toy too
It scared the little boys so I put it away in a closet and haven't seen it in a year or two. What a waste of money!

20. Ah, but I have persisted!
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 08:31 PM by Hope2006
I decided that maybe if I placed some treasured toys on the bag, the boys would not be as frightened of it.

I turned the bag upside down as it has a nice hollow on it's back which is just perfect for small mousies, bells, and other treasured paraphenalia.

Here is the bag with a mousy that squeaks if it is jarred (just perfect for the vibrating bag!).

Spidey decided that the mousey did NOT belong on the bag:

He then decided to teach mousey a lesson:

Jake overcame his significant terror and got close (but was not brave enough to grab the mousey):

Unfortunately, now the boys ignore the bag unless I place interesting things on it. I guess that'll teach me!
