Two weeks today and I am still so sad. A montage of photos to honor Sonic

Having Sonic put to sleep was the hardest thing I have ever done. I keep telling myself it was a gift to him and the best for him, yet I would love to have him back.

Nights are terrible. I think I hear him, I think he is under my bed, I wake up reaching for him because he usually slept right next to me. When he got cold he would nudge at the covers so I would lift them up and he would go down and lay against my leg.

I miss him so much, some days I feel like I will never recover from my grief. There is a big hole in my heart and I so ache to hold him again.

1. Great photos!
What a great group! How are Frolic and Mimic taking it?

When we had to have Sandy put to sleep a couple of years ago, we had four other dogs. They really didn't seem to notice that Sandy was gone, but I think it's because he had had very little to do with them the last few years. He slept a lot and kept to himself.

I know it's hard. I hope sharing him with us helps ease the pain.

4. Frolic and Mimic seemed to look around for him the first few days
but now they are back doing the same things.

It was really strange one night right after Sonic was put down, Mimic came into our bedroom and just stood looking under the bed and barked and barked and barked. There wasn't any thing under there though.

It freaked me a little because Sonic would often go there when he wanted to get away from the rambunctious puppy play. I wondered if Mimic was barking thinking she could make him come out or something.

And yes sharing helps ease the pain. I'm sure people are tired of hearing me talk about him but I just can't stop.

Thanks for letting me share.

5. Talk as much as you need to.
He was a member of your family, and two weeks is barely any time at all. Recover at your own pace, and take comfort in your other dogs. Great pics of all of them.....

2. Awww, what a cutie! It's cliche, but...
it just takes time. Took me months to stop "checking" on our dog or remembering to let her out.

I'm sorry you are hurting.

3. Aww! In the second pic, the light behind him looks like a halo.
Sweet pictures.

I know how you must miss Sonic. I think we all have been through losing a beloved pet one time or another.

During the morning routine, we would let our yellow lab outside, and Maui, a little mix, would always follow him because when we let them back in and gave them their treats, Cayman (the yellow) would always leave numerous crumbs on the floor, and Maui would come by and hoover them up. After putting Cayman down, Maui still runs to the spot where Cayman would eat the treat and checks for crumbs. Sad.

I live Jacks, great dogs...

9. Our family cat died several years ago on December 22. My mom
was a wreck after a life time of saying she was going to send Lillan to the pound. She wouldn't go to the vet with me and my sister, but when we learned that she should be put to sleep, she wanted to be there. When I went home to get her, I found her in the middle of the living room, sobbing and holding Lillian's red Christmas ribbon that she always wore for the holidays. At the vet, my mom put the ribbon on Lillan's collar, and we all held her as she melted away from us. A few hours later, my mother's brother--my uncle--died unexpectedly. It was hard for her to articulate it, and the thought still sounds bad to the ears, but right to the heart--she loved her brother dearly, but she felt equally upset by Lillian's death. So did I.

I am really sorry about Sonic--give yourself time and keep looking at the photos! They are beautiful.

10. I'm so very sorry for your loss
it was hard for me to read your thread. I lost my beloved kitty Peewee last year, and it still miss him so terribly. It's obvious that Sonic truly adored you and knew how much he was loved. there are others of us out here who know how large that hole in your heart feels, and how much your arms ache to hold your beloved pet again. Sometimes the grief is just overwhelming. Time will make it bearable, but that doesn't mean that you'll ever stop missing him. Just try to show as much affection as you can to your remaining pets; they grieve too, and helping them may also help you to find peace.
