I have a page size problem
Currently only with the Huffington Post. The page comes in too wide for my screen and an inch or two of the left side of the page is cut off with no ability to scroll in that direction. I briefly had that problem with Daily Kos but they have a choice on their home page of wide or narrow so I picked narrow and that cleared that up. I contacted the Huff Post and asked them for advice but they didn't respond. Is there anything I can do at my end to fix it? I have Win '98 and Netscape 7.1. Thanks.

1. Set your display resolution to 1024x768
Typically, this scroll off happens when someone posts a long url in their message.

DU, for example, truncates URLs to avoid this very problem, but it's common.

But I have noticed more and more websites "require" finer resolutions than the old 800x600 standard.

Huffington, for example, clearly requires 1024x768.

When I started working on the web, for example, we designed for 600x480 resolution and "stretched" the design from that (screw the few "webtv" people with even less resolution). 800x600 is pretty much the standard nowadays but I AM surprised to occassionally see even my 1024x768 scroll off as well.

2. Thanks. How on Earth do I do that?
I'm not completely computer-illiterate but I don't always know where in my computer I need to go to fix a problem.

3. right click on your desktop.
Choose 'properties' from the pop-up menu.
A display properties window will open. Choose the settings tab. You should see a slider down below that lists what resolutions your video card supports. Slide it to 1024x768 (if supported) and click apply now. The screen will probably flicker, and a prompt will probably ask you if it worked. If it did, click ok and your done.

4. Wow, that worked...
although the print is pretty small now (I'll get used to it).
My new problem is that I've discovered that Symantec will no longer renew my security subscription; they only want to support Win 2000, not 98. Sigh! :-(

6. Do they support Win 98?
That's my real sticking point right now. I have a lot of reasons to change to a new computer, although I'd rather not spend the money right now. I have only 96 RAM, which has been annoying for at least a couple of years, but my computer does have some life left in it.
