Windows Media Player CODECs
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 09:21 AM by soup
I'm trying to save a news clip video and am having problems. Any help would be appreciated, even if it's someone telling me that 'you can't get there from here'.

The clip is on the station's web player:
http://rdu.news14.com/content/your_news/fayetteville/?ArID=63332&SecID=32

I tried putting the URL for the video into my Windows Media Player, and get an error message that I'm missing a CODEC (whatever that is)

Thought maybe it wasn't compatable with WMP, so tried opening the URL in QuickTime, but get an error message that it isn't recognized.

Could it have anything to do with proprietary rights, and the only way to view the clip is at the station's website? (You can't get there from here.)

Just noticed a 'add to cart' button where you click to play the video, guess that means it has to be purchased to be saved? May have just answered my own question with you can't get there from here. darnit.

Thanks in advance...

edit:
"The video is available on VHS only and can only date back one month from the date the story originally aired." Rats. *sigh*
and even if it was still available, each clip is $26.88!? whew.
