Simple question from a computer newbie

I've been racking my brains all day; please help! All I want to do is to move the Recycle Bin icon to my desktop, but I guess I just don't have the brain matter to do it. In fact, I don't know how to put ANY icon on the desktop! (This is a question I can't ask anybody I actually know, because they'll realize what a ditz I am).

do not have the recycle bin on the desktop now? For desktop shortcuts you can right click on any program in your start menu/all programs and send to desktop as shortcut.

OK ... here is the newbie version of how to do this ...

first, open up Windows Explorer or even Internet Explorer ...
second, type the following into the "address" bar: recycle bin
third, press "Enter"
fourth, click and hold the little icon in the address bar (to the left of where it says "recycle bin"
fifth, drag the icon to your desktop and release the mouse
