Anyone here play with Eagle Mode File/Desktop managers?
wow...this is a pretty fantastic interface, one of the most radial file management/search tools since the creation of the Windows GUI (sounds hyperbolic, but it is certainly an evolutionary interface - if you are a coder, I can see why this would be a great programming tool. It appears that the Linux version has the necessary hooks to read file types, watch movies, at very small levels. The Windows version apparently lacks some of that functionality.

If you want to see what Eagle Mode is, watch this short video on the site: http://eaglemode.sourceforge.net/video.html In my business, I managed 1000's of project/project records over file structures that end up with upwards of 10 sub-directory levels...this kind of file organization could save me hugh amounts of clicking time....

I've also being playing around with "The Brain" www.thebrain.com This is a file relationship builder/mapper...while it's interesting, I think Eagle Mode is going to have a lot more practical user applications.

1. Still a work in progress for Windows OS, I think.
Not much luck getting my mouse or touchpad to control the zooming/panning function yet. Still, this has great potential for user file management and application usability. As you drill down into the embedded utilities and games, you can see new linkages for instructions. Pretty cool stuff.

2. I installed it
I don't really know how to use it yet, but it looks kind of interesting.

If nothing else, it satisfies my longing for the days when each app had its own look, and wasn't pigeonholed into whatever "theme" I happen to be using.

Is that a typo where you call the program "radial?" I'm assuming you meant "radical," but can't rule out "radial." It sounds like it could be congruent with the rest of what you said. But in context, I don't know what "radial" would mean.

Eagle Mode is now on my computer. Hopefully I can figure out how to use it, so than I can pass judgment on it. :)

3. Of course, spell check doesn't know the difference....
Yep, radical, as in a whole new way to look at info on your PC. Sort of a 'Google Earth' approach to file management.

Are you running it on widows or linux? I get the idea, but the zooming function doesn't work for me (Win7)....if I were Microsoft, I'd be seriously looking to integrate this technology into Win8

4. I'm using Linux
An oldish version of Ubuntu, 10.04, Lucid Lynx, to be exact.

I haven't had a chance to mess around with it much. I haven't even read the "help" info yet. It seems like an interesting concept, but I'm still undecided if it's practical.

I'm always interested in new programs, and new types of programs. So thanks for posting about it.
